My humidifier works, but I attached a hose to direct the water into the sump into my basement and that doesn't work. The bucket fills and then the machine stops

For the hose to work the unit must be elevated somehow so that the bucket will not fill. Or somehow the unit must be higher than the end of the hose. If you put the hose down an open floor drain that should suffice.
2 possibilities: #1The port that you plugged the hose onto need to be drilled so the water can come out and enter the hose. #2 The hose cannot be higher at ANY point than the bucket. Physics rules apply and the water will always fill the lowest point. Keep the hose low or raise the dehumidifier up.
The water in your sump pit needs to be no more than 2-3 inches, this is enough to keep your pump happy and make sure it works properly when you need it to. The hose attachment is used in place of the water collection bucket, to drain the water directly into a floor drain or a sump pump holding tank. A garden hose is connected to the "hose attachment" and run to the floor drain or sump pump holding tank. However, it will not drain UP, only DOWN.
Try to see if operating the float lever by hand can make it turn off the 'bucket full' message. Maybe use a rubber band or tape to keep it in the on position vs. the 'bucket full' off position.
Check to see if the bucket has to be inserted for the unit to operate, and if the bucket has a nozzle to hook a hose up to at the bottom. I have a dehumidifier of a different brand that has this feature that works with the bucket in, but with the drain nozzle on the bucket connected to a plastic tube that leads to a drain for continuous operation without having to empty the bucket.
How is your hose attached to the unit if it isn't attached to the bucket?
safety switch is turning off the dehumidifier....you need to drain out the bucket more often....or put the drain hose into an actual drain....ive seen some people run a small plastic hose from the dehumidifier to the sump pump hole in their basement.
There is water in the bucket or no water in the bucket? If there is water in the bucket then empty it and put it back. If there is no water in the bucket then make sure the bucket is all the way in, (there is a switch that senses the bucket). If the bucket is not all the way in the de-humidifier will not work. If you do not hear it, it is not working.
