Over the weekend my t.v. won't turn on it sounds like its going to but then the red blinking light keeps flashing 6 times. I have shut it down for 24-48 hours and still it won't turn on.
My Sony KV36HS500 Trinitron is doing the same thing. Last night the next street over was hit by lightning. The "7" blink pattern was happening, so like the manual stated, unplug it for 4 hours. Which I did. The t.v. is back up and running fine. It's a nice t.v., better than the plasma I paid over a grand for, that's already shot. It's a good t.v. and good that Sony put in the stand by protection to prevent the t.v. from dying an unnecessary young death. Patience, don't rush it, unplug the t.v. and leave it sit. Also, don't use a power strip, that was my mistake, and unplug your t.v. if storms are in the area, I was too lazy to and now I had to deal with this, in 8 years, only twice did this happen. I'd buy another one tomorrow if they still made them.
I had this problem tonight and left my set *unplugged* for six hours, making sure it would completely drain all juice. When plugging it back in, it came right on! Even the self-diagnosis mode (from power off, press Display - 5 - volume down - Power, making sure each press is within one second of the last one) shows that none of the error codes have been recorded, not the 4, 6, or 7 that I saw blinking.
Whatever it was for me *appears* to have been transient, but leaving it turned off didn't help. Only leaving it completely unplugged did the trick, and I have no guarantee this will last. I don't know what caused it, and I don't know why it's back, but I'm not arguing!
My standby red light is blinking 6 times
I had the same problem with my 34" Sony Wega. I found a repair man in the L.A. area. Came out on a house call and soldered in two new chips for $270.00 at 8 p.m. on a monday night. T.V. is working again and peace has returned to the house. If your in L.A. area try Chu Electronics 800-873-555
Hello, I had the Same problem with the failed start up and the power cut out. The green flashing light, then the orange, then the red (3) Three Times. This all started when I hooked up my Computer to the Sony KF-60we610, TV to Watch a movie. The Computer when Hooked up by S Video, I think Interrupted the Start up sequence of the TV and then could not initialize. Thus the 3 red lights and the powering down of the fan. I Unplugged my Sony KF-60we610, TV from the power Surge bar for about an hour, then re-plugged it again in the wall outlet. I Turned the TV on again by pressing the button on the TV and then Pressed the reset button on the remote and it re- initialized. Like Magic, It went on. Thank you for your post, I hope this helps because I used these posts to help me.
Dear Scorpio123
Dear Leo68
Right, well i may hazard a guess and say it could be either a power fault to tube coil, or scan coils (if a CRT type TV), however if i am wrong, then all you need to do, is hit up google, and search for the service sheets or fault diagnoses for your make and model of TV, then contact me back for the way on how to resolve this cheaply and effectively.
I hope that you both sort the problem out, and i look forward to hearing from you soon
best regards
oz

ONE: Unplug it for at least 4 hours. That is what we call a hard reset.
TWO: If the hard reset does not help, then it will need further diagnostics.
The following bulletin may be of help in your learning about what is
going on. Please refer to it below. Then let me know if you need
further assistance.
Have a great day,

Sony Blinking Codes
Many of the later model Sony TV's have a built in Self- Diagnosis function. If
the timer/standby indicator is blinking, this could be an indication of the
problem with the unit. The diagnostic blinking will occur automatically with no
action required by you to engage it.
The timing of the blinking you see would be as follows: two to eight blinks
(depending on the fault) about a third of a second apart, then pauses for 3
seconds, then the two to eight blinks about a third of a second apart again.
Here is a list of the problems that might have occurred indicated by the
number of blinks. The words in parentheses are those which you will see for
each of these faults on a diagnosis screen described later in this article.
Unit is dead and there are no blinks---Problem in the standby power
section. Might check fuse, R607, Q601, IC601, R612 and VDR601 (should
show open)
Continuous Blink Once A Second, No Pausing As Discussed Above---
No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground or held
high), IK video path is defective.
ONE Blink--- not used for the self-diagnosis
TWO Blinks---B+ over current protection (OCP) , unit goes to the standby
mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of
any of the circuits.
THREE Blinks---B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby
mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power
supply circuit, check T603 and R672.
FOUR Blinks---No Vert. Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single
horizontal line then the video signal muted. Check IC1509, Q1505
FIVE Blinks---AKB circuit (AKB), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about
30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with
the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C
board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. Also unit be in IK blanking,
try turning up screen slightly.
SIX Blinks---No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking selfdiagnosis
function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.
SEVEN Blinks---High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k
and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply
regulation and horizontal circuits.
EIGHT Blinks---Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and
blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401 and 402.
Intermittent problems ?? This is a great feature. You can also bring up
these fault codes ON-SCREEN to see a list of the problem numbers with the
abbreviation of the problem and the number of times this problem has
occurred. This is slightly different than entering the service mode. To see the
diagnostic screen, Press the following buttons:
Display, Channel, 5, Vol Minus, ( Not plus ) then Power. This brings up
a screen with a list of the problems and number of times they have occurred.
Each of the problem names is abbreviated as, "OCP", "OVP", "V STOP", ETC.
We have repeated them in parentheses in the text for the "Blinks" described
above so you can correlate between the diagnostic screen and the blink
codes.
So, now that you know about these self-diagnostics, how do you use them?
Say that you have a set with a black screen. You see that the LED is blinking
4 times....This would tell you that you have no vertical and that is why the
video is muted. If it was blinking 6 times, you would know that you have a
horizontal fault.
It's not a sure cure, but it's a little better than a poke in the eye with a sharp
stick.
IMPORTANT: after you repair the unit, PLEASE clear the values on this
diagnostic screen. These codes do not reset themselves after the fault is
corrected, so if you don't clear them, you'll be seeing "old" fault codes the
next time you enter this screen.
Clearing is done by going into the service mode ( display, channel, 5,
volume plus, then power ) then press 8 and Enter, which of course returns
everything to the factory preset condition.

Hello, I have the same problem and the same model. My manual says to contact Sony to service the tv. Did you get any other advice? if so, did it work?
Over the weekend my t.v. won't turn on it sounds like its going to but then the red blinking light keeps flashing 4 times. I have shut it down for 24-48 hours and still it won't turn on.
I have the same exact problem, I hear a real loud pop and then the red light. Last time it happened, I shut it off for about 8 hours, turned it back on and it was fine for about 2 weeks, now it happened again today. Let me know of a cheap fix for this if there is one.
Got the same thing happening here..It just shut off, no noise, just a click..then when we try to turn it back on, the stand by light blinks..but nothing happens..
Hi,
I have the same problem, I did all the tricks you guys have come up with ,it didn't do it. I agree that SONY should repair all those TV's Free.
I am thinking of buying new TV but I feel sorry about the mega $ that I paid for that TV and only lasts for less than 4 years.
Thanks
Fighter1.
My set sony wega - kv-36hs420is blinking in standby for 6 blinks pause 6 blinks etc...it will not come on all the way. I have disconnected for + 6 hours, plugged into a different outlet...but still does it.
Finally I hit the power and volume up at the same time as the tv is powering up and it appears to bypass the standby long enough to power up. I have a after market remote control...don't know where the original remote went to. I swear this works for me. Tv will not come on otherwise.
Mine did the same thing today......when i first bought, had to return that one to the store the same week for this problem, thought it was isolated. the power key plus volume up at power up worked for me. This model is a piece of **** and Sony should re compensate it's customers and beg for our forgiveness.
called cable to test box. changed electrical outlet. tried remote and actual tv on and off.
my tv wont turn on and it blinks 6 times
had the same problem with the 6 blinks. I ordered a new d board from sears for 220.00 ,it worked fine for 2 days then the tv just shut down while i was watching. Now when I turn it on I get the burst but then nothing,no blinks at all. I hate to toss it out but i'm at a loss.
Anybody ever solve this? I haven't tried unplugging for 4-6 hours yet, but I'm going to do so.
Is this a costly repair?JOE
