Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. Could be pin correction circuit or your picture tubes could be worn out . Sometimes when the crt's get weak the edges seem not as clear as the center of the screen . Give model number if you think the pin correction may be your problem but, the tv is pretty old and avg. life for them is 12 to 15 years when the picture tubes start to degrade . Good luck

Your convergence ICs are bad and maybe the two resistors right next to them. This is an easy and inexpensive repair if you can solder. A repair shop will run about 400.00 The parts are readily available for about 10.00 each you will need two ICs STKXXX-XXX
Look inside your set for a large aluminum heat sink that's where hey are located they will have an STK number like above stamped on them. Those are the part numbers. Let me know what type of TV and model number you have and I can help you locate the proper parts.
