My Mouse Fails To Work On One Of the USB Ports

I started (booted) up my computer just a while ago and discovered there was no activity for my Mouse. I checked all the connections and then decided to use one of the extra ports on the front side of my computer. The Mouse works now. I have concluded that there is a faulty port on this 4 way hub that I had purchased from Wal Mart a while back. Can I repair this item? Is it under warranty? The serial number is 050750015. Am I stuck with a hub that just has 3 ports working now? I have been working with computers for over 20 years now, and this is the first time I have ever seen a USB Port go bad on anything. Please provide answers and solutions.

Thanks

I have had several ports go bad for no apparent reason. its happened on internal and external devices.
Frankly, unless this is a thing of principal for you I would just go and order a new hub from Amazon for a few bucks and be done with it. Even if its under warranty you would probably be required to ship the dead one back so that would cost more than getting a new one.
Just my 2 cents

SOURCE: USB hub

Do you have Windows XP and at least Service pack 2 installed.
Service Pack 2 comes bundled with the neccessary drivers for USB 2.0
In device manager under the USB heading you must have:
PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller
In the list.

USB ports fail - no mouse or keyboard on start up on hp pavilion desktop p6000

some older computers don't load usb devices until after windows is booted and in such instances usually a traditional ps2 mouse and keyboard (green and purple plugs respectively) are the best option to enter the bios or boot from cd/dvd

Gigabyte GM-M5050 not connecting to laptop.

it is only a USB mouse and works on any pC really.
w7 needs no special driver for this mouse ever,
it uses PnP, plug and play and the internet must be active and working for PnP to work is it? not told that.
your failed computer is all messed up with w7 even infected
monza is w7, 2012 made (year)
the usb ports are first not mouse the device manager must show all USB ports have good drivers, and you test them using a USB stick of thumbdrive memory to be sure they do work, and if does good
or use USB keyboard to test usb ports all
if all that works then the mouse is tried. and internet connected and the mouse to when connected must show up in device manager.
and actually function/

old relic COMPAQ LT.

your LT now has 2 mice, and if you run 2 mice what happens
they try to get in a fight.
we must shut off the mouse pad first.
I guess this mouse is a MS mouse, no mouse name stated.

I shut off the mouse pad in device manager.
look for the USB mouse not, is this unstated mouse wireless, if yes a new battery is now needed. and matching usb dongle.
now plug in the mouse. PC goes DING donng.,
and it loads a driver
be in the internet to W7 can find the driver.
if still dead, go to device manager,
see that mouse there under. mice and other pointing devices
mine shows, HID mouse here.
if missing , plug the mouse into all USB ports 1 by one and listen for the DINGDONGg (means new USB device discovered)
if still fails buy a new mouse, gee barrow one for a day.
if that mouse works , trash the dead one.

you can not have 2 mice at same time or you get into trouble.
the old mouse pad , we had to use disable in device manager to kill it.
on the new HP we have newer driver and it has this.
" tab, automatically disable pad mouse with usb mouse active"
but old ones dont have this
I too hate pads. when the thumb hits the pad, I want to kill that pad fast.

My plug in mouse for my hp laptop isnt working the red light wont come on and its plugged in

First of all boot to the Bios, think its F2 or Del key on that model..
In the advanced screen, checdk to see that USB controllers are enabled for the mouse.
If they are, try plugging another usb peripheral (usb drive or dongle) into the ports, if they ARE recognised, then issue is with the mouse. If they do not register, then issue is with the USB ports. Possibly a damaged USB controller

Mouse won't install

You may need to check your BIOS setting. The mouse be disabled there. You can access the BIOS thru the boot menu when your computer frist starts up. If the mouse is active as a usable feature, then you may have to a hard boot of your operating system with the OS(Windows Vista, XP, 2000, etc.) Cd you recieved with the computer. If that does not work, then you will have to a complete reinstall of your operating system.

The usb ports will not work, therefore the mouse nor the keyboard will work

Try the mouse in a computer where the USB ports *DO* work.

It is possible that your system does not have the correct "device-drivers" for the USB ports. Thus, those USB ports seem to be "dead".

Turn the computer off.
Connect a PS/2 keyboard and a PS/2 mouse.
Turn the computer on.
Click START
Click Control Panel
Click System
Click Hardware
Click Device Manager
Expand the "USB ports" section of the tree.
Look for "yellow" or "red" marks.
Double-click one of those "problem" devices.
Choose "Reinstall Driver".
If it asks to be able to connect to the Internet, click "yes, this time".
Hopefully, this will install the correct drivers for your USB ports.

Gateway 610 k/b & mouse unrecognized..CMOS problem??

It's not the K/M, there probably was a surge that went through, and effected the motherboard in the computer. so you can take it to your local computer shop. But, before you bring it there, back up your important files because they might have to format your HD.

Can't load os do you computer Dell only has usb ports

Ensure the Keyboard and mouse are connected to the USB ports nearest the PS2 port on the back of the chassis.

Boot to the BIOS F2 and ensure USB emulation is ON.

If you can't access the bios, reset the BIOS using the Jumper on the motherboard, then USB ports should then work.
