I have a Atwood 6 Gallon Gas Water Heater Model #G6A-7E electronic ignite water heater. When I turn the switch to on I hear the mechanism clicking to try to ignite but then the light goes red and all clicking stops. I am new to RV ownership and am trying to solve the problem on my own. Any advice?
Make sure propane is on and getting to your stove burners ok, first, then try switching it back on. If it fails to ignite, shut switch off and try a couple of times, if still no ignition, get back to me.
I have the same unit and the very same problem, took off valve and yes gas is coming into valve but not getting through ,am i right to order another valve?
I have the same unit and tried exactly what you suggested, gas works the fridge, stove and air heater but not the water heater, still same clicking and then the light stays on
There should be a thermal cut-off in the connection to thermostat. it has a plastic sleeve over it. pay attention to where that wire connects at thermostat, and carefully remove it from the male spade connector at thermostat. Now remove the entire thermal cut-off from other end of wire as well. Now take that wire end (female spade) and connect it directly to thermostat where the cut-off was connected. Try lighting and running heater now. If heater works, replace thermal cut-off. That is a safety device in case of flame up from spider webs etc clogging burner tube, so don't leave it out. Problem with that is that it is only a 1 time cut-off, and needs replace each time . Let me know if that cures running problem.
removed thermal coupler and have same problem
While switching on, use probe of test light (12VDC) or multimeter and touch connector where wires connect to gas valve and light should light up, or meter should read 12 volts when you hear water heater going through ignition cycle. If voltage is there and no gas delivered to ignite, try tapping valve with screwdriver handle in case valve is stuck. If still no flow of gas, replace gas valve. If you listen very close you should be able to hear a slight click, or feel with finger tip when valve is energized and opening.
One other thing that occurs from time to time is a bad connection on board. Simply remove connector(s) and rub contact with pencil eraser or spray with electrical contact cleaner and re-install, then try again. Quite often simply removong connector and re-installing it 2 or 3 times will clean it well enough to eliminate the problem.
How do I knw whn my water heater valve is bad? Have to tap to make the gas ignite
