I have also heard that wireless gaming can have lesser results. But if you want to do Xbox Live wireless, you will have to have a router and Microsoft's XBOX wifi adapter shown in the link above.
To connect to Xbox live, your best bet is to (if you dont have one) get a router, connect it to your Internet modem, and plug it into the xbox 360 using an ethernet cable.
Follow these instructions to set up the Xbox or Xbox 360
connections to a wireless home network. These instructions assume the
wireless router is already installed with a working Internet connection.
If after following these instructions you are unable to network your Xbox with the wireless router, see -
Connecting Xbox to Wireless Networks - Why Things Go Wrong
Here's How:
Connect the appropriate wireless network adapter to the console. On the Xbox, a Wi-Fi adapter that connects to the Ethernet port (sometimes also called a wireless network bridge) must be used. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 is also designed to work with certain Wi-Fi game adapters that connect to a USB port.
Turn
on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the
Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -> Network Settings -> Advanced
-> Wireless -> Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System
-> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."
Set the SSID
(network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If
your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should
appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify
Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.
Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.)
Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA
encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not
support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead.
Note that the standard Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) only supports WEP.
Save your settings and verify the network is functional.
On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a connection
has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the Connect
Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made
through the Internet to Xbox Live.
On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option instead.
Tips:
Even
when your wireless connection between the Xbox and the router is
working perfectly, you may still experience difficulty connecting to
Xbox Live. These issues can be caused by the quality of your Internet
connection or the firewall and Network Address Translation (NAT)
settings of your wireless router. Additional troubleshooting may be
required in these areas to achieve reliable Xbox Live connections.
Is the adapter fully connected to the Xbox and did it successfully install any software needed for the adapter.
Is the wireless network you are trying to connect to active and are other wireless devices connected to the wirless router?
Are you network settings on your xbox correct for your network? Do you have any kind of network access key or password and was it correctly added to your X box wireless network adapter settings?
Have you tried power cycling the wireless router after powering off your Xbox? If not, power off your Xbox, then power cycle your router, turn on the Xbox and attempt to connect again.
There are times when a router restart is necessary to connnect to new devices. It would not hurt to power cycle your internet provider equipment as well. Power cycle the internet modem, then the wireless router, if they are separate pieces of equipment.
If your not sure of your network settings, be sure to check with the person who set up the network so your wireless router will allow access to your Xbox.
Let me know what you have done and any other details you can give me about the problem if what I have suggested here does not provide a solution.
The disk contains the driver, uninstall the driver, disconnect the device from the xbox.Install the driver first and then connect the device (you should be prompted to do so). Make sure your wireless router sees the xbox.
You need to first set up your connection...the red light indicates there is no connection....you need to make sure your internet has a wireless network and u need to selct ur network from ur network settings in xbox360.
If the light is flashing but the disk does not start you need to go into system settings/console/startup and turn the "Disk" auto startup ON. It was set to off for me by default. Restart and it will install the update from the disk.
