Okay what happens is when i try to Connect to my Linksys wireless-n Router model: WRT160N it connects fine but the internet is so slow but when i connect to it wired it works fine how can i fix the wireless problem

Is there any computer connected to the router ?
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router.
Do not change any wireless settings on the router with the wireless computer.
you will need to connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.
check the IP address of the computer.
open the router set up page of the router.
Here you can change the wireless settings of the router.
Now once you change the network anme and security on the router, you will need to connect to the wireless network on your wireless computers.

go to control panel--network and internet--n/w and sharing centre---manage wireless n/ws---remove all wireless n/ws u see there including ur n/w name......then click start--connect to---connect to ur n/w typing proper encryption keys

This router WRT160N has issues with the firmware. It is recommended that you should upgrade the firmware of the router. Download the correct firmware of your router from www.linksys.com/download .
save it on your computer. Is there any computer connected to the router ? If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router. Open the set up page of the router and upgrade the firmware of the router.
Once you upgrade the firmware of the router, reset the router and reconfigure the router.

If you are connecting a wireless computer then disable the wireless connection on the computer. open the set up page of the router. change the wireless network name to something different that you never used before. change the standard channel to 11. save the settings. Try to connect to the wireless network. Check if you see the new network name ? If you see the new then try t connect and see if that works.
This router WRT160N has issues with the firmware.
Upgrade the firmware of the router. power cycle the router.

I made it an unsecured connection and everything worked. Not ideal solution, but it worked.

Can you return it for another model?
Can you getLinksys to replace it?

the best one is the LINKSYS WRT54GL, but if you are stuck with the one you have...

If you have tried all these things and you are very brave (or don't care if you need to buy another router) why not try flashing it with an after market O/S?

Get Network Magic ... download for evaluation.

This is a tremendous network management tool well worth the $. If you dont pay, you can still use most features.

Get it and use it to get your connection going at least.

Setting up a Linksys 16 port switch: There are many different switch models, however if it just your basic switch, you should be able to just plug it in and plug in your computers via RJ45 cables.

probably nothing..go to the maker of your computer, and get a fresh wireless driver set..maybe the old one did not include linksys..it does happen in MSoft land.
