I get static so bad that I can't squelch it down enough to get rid of the noise. Traveling out on the highway it usually works ok. But when I enter a town the static gets badusually around power lines. How can I get rid of this excess noise?

You could install a filter in the line between the antenna and the transciever. I reccommend a high-pass or band-pass filter set for the 27 MHz band to remove any interference at different frequencies. Also, some older TVs can cause interference to CB radios if they are close. If this doesn't work, the radio may be poorly sheilded or your area may have implemented the broadband power line initiative (BPL). This produces a strong buzz of noise that obliterates all weak to moderate radio signals between 2 and 80 MHz (CB being at 27 MHz).

One of my two Motorola TLRK T4's generates a static white noise but the other one doesn't.

You didn't say whether the radio still worked ok apart from the noise...

Defective components can produce such noise as can a dry soldered joint - a dry joint is a fairly common fault.

A white type noise is typical of many types of receiver when the squelch is turned down. The squelch circuit is designed to reject signals that are too weak to receive with sufficient strength to be intelligible and in doing so also blocks the background "static". On many CB and VHF type receivers the squelch level is adjustable but tends to be either preset or automatic on basic walkie-talkie type radios. Perhaps the squelch requires adjustment or perhaps the circuit has stopped working.

Background noise from a vertex pilot III

Increase the squelch control just enough to cut out the background noise.

Static noise will not go off unless I hit talk button but when I let go it comes back on

The Squelch control is turned too far down. The control should be labeled "Squelch" or "SQL" Turn this control clockwise until the white noise stops. You may want to turn it very slightly further, but not too much.

This control sets the sensitivity of the radio, if too far counter clockwise it will receive noise. If too far the other way it will only receiver very strong signals.

How can i stop the squelch ive tryed turning the sqcuelch doesnt help

Plug the AC adapter into the back of the scanner and into a wall electrical outlet. Screw the antenna into the receptacle on the back of the scanner (extend the antenna to full length for best reception).

  • 2 Set the squelch level to allow signals to be heard by turning the squelch knob counterclockwise. Rotate the volume knob clockwise until you hear static. Slowly turn the squelch knob clockwise until the static noise disappears.
  • 3 Start programming frequencies into the scanner by pressing the "Manual" button.
  • 4 Press the up arrow or down arrow key until the channel you wish to program is visible on the display.
  • 5 Use the numbers on the keypad to enter the frequency for the local transmitter you wish to receive.
  • 6 Press the "E" key to complete the process of entering the frequency.
  • 7 Repeat steps 3 through 6 for each additional frequency you wish to monitor.
  • 8 Press the "Scan" key to start the scanning process. The scanner stops on a channel when it detects a signal strong enough to hear over the squelch setting. Two seconds after the signal stops, the scanning process resumes.

How can i hear what they are saying without that awful loud sound when they arent saying anything. cause when i turn the volume down i cant hear what they are saying

Turn up your SQUELCH button when no one is talking until the static noise just goes away.

Now your set will remain quiet until someone talks.

If you set the squelch too high it will also cut out the people talking, so always try to have it set just slightly above the background static level.

    Good luck.

My Squelch on my Cobra C.B isnt working anymore, Does that mean anything or do i need a new C.B?

It means either the knob or something in the squelch circuit has gone bad. Doesn't mean that you cannot use the radio, you will just hear static all the time when no one is talking. If the static bothers you, you can always back the RF gain down a bit. That will quiet the noise, but lower you receive range. meaning you won't hear as far away.

Scanner will not move from the programmed Police channel

you may need to play with the squelch. and/also hold down the light/key button until the key goes away but mess with the squelch after you get rid of the lock. you want the squelch as far left without it stopping and making static noise

    GMR1035-2

    Hi,

The RX symbol and static noise would only appear if the squelch is down or if you are receiving something from a transmitter.

Receiving something could mean either an intelligent radio transmission from another comparable unit or this could also be spillover signals from adjacent radio transmitters strong enough to override the squelch settings normally called "splatter". At times, electronic devices could cause this effect such as RFI (radio frequency interference) from units such as a personal computer.

It is also possible that your Monitor Mode is "ON", turning it OFF would possibly resolve the issue To turn OFF monitor mode:Press the vol/mon UP or DOWN key. The RX icon will stop blinking and disappears.

In some cases, a component failure would cause this problem. Your GMR1035-2 uses an Automatic Squelch Feature, this would mean the use of a FM Discriminator Chip for Squelch Control. Most manufacturers uses an MC3357P IC chip for this purpose. This of course would require opening the unit, desoldering the suspected component and solder in a replacement. This would further require that you be familiar with electronic components, circuitry, DVM and a low wattage soldering iron. Should you not be comfortable doing this, perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified technician.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

    Good luck and kind regards.

    Radio Mic

Check the squelch on your radio thats not recieving. If there is a monitor button ( when pushed you will hear static) try pushing it.. then get someone to call you so you can check if you can hear them. On these radios you have 2 types of squelch....1 is called carrier squelch.... it basically opens when there is a strong enough signal. This lets you only hear strong signals and "squelch out" the distant ones and background static. The2nd. is "tone squelch" ... with your radio they are often called privacy tones. If you have 2 radios set with the same privacy tones you will only be able to hear each other... only radios that are transmitting with that privacy tone will be heard on your radio. Its a high frequency tone that can't be hear by the human ear that gets "embeded" with the transmitting signal. The recieving radio hears it and opens the squelch. So... if the radio thats rxing (recieving)your signal has its squelch set for just carrier squelch it will hear any signal thats strong enough to break the squech open.... basicaly any radio within a certain range. But if your radio (one with problem) has its squelch set for privacy tones you will not hear any other radios except the ones set with the same privacy tone.... the squelch will not open until it gets a tx signal with the right tone.... so if the txing (transmitting) radio is not using tone squelch but is using carrier squelch.... and the rxing radio is set for tone squelch... the rxing radio will not hear it. With tone (privacy tones/codes) squelch you need a tone to open the squelch and then the audio can be heard... with carrier squelch the squelch will open if ANY radio is within a certain range. Check the squelch setting on the problem radio... it could have a privacy tone set. Try pushing in the monitor button so you can hear static ( you want to hear everything including static) on both radios... tx on one radio at a time and listen if it can be heard on the other with the monitor button pushed. If you can't hear any audio when the broken one is transmitting then it COULD be the mic.... if you can hear both radios with the monitor button activated than the radios are txing and have tx audio and are working... if thats the case its the privacy tones that are the problem. Take care
