I just removed the printer from the packaging and tried to set it up. The paper tray seems to be stuck and won't let me pull it out. Any ideas? Thanks.
Hidden deep within the manual is the 'bottom plate cleaning' procedure. This takes a piece of (new) paper with a crease, and sweeps out the paper path. It is meant to remove extra ink from the bottom plate, but may also remove paper blocking a sensor that would be detected as a jam. More than like a paper tray guide has become dislodged from the side of the printer. When this happens the tray is quite difficult to get out without disassembly. Good Luck.

I had the exact same problem, brand new 2600n right out of the box, the tray would not release. I called HP and they told me to "Pull Harder" so I did and that broke the tray. After getting bounced around HP tech support for hours I finally got them to send me a new printer. I'm considering not using HP products in the future after my customer service experience with HP.
First of all you need to take it back scince it is new out of box BUT if you insist on working on it what has happened was the roller guard came loose and spring came out of the guard.
you need to turn it around to acces it from the rear.
you need to get the plastic piece out.
and pust tray's medal piece down..
then try to open draw.
BUT I WOULD TAKE IT BACK IF I WERE YOU SINCE YOU HAVE NOT WORKED ON THESE.
YOU COULD VOID WARRANTY.
If it really won't budge (make sure all tape/wrapping is removed), it may have been damaged in shipping... I found this on HP's website, from a user on the forum:
"there is a white plastic piece ,(i believe on the left side),just a little in from the front ,that gets caught.i would imagine something gets jarred during shipping maybe.unfortunately if it happen s it can be difficult to get out.i think one guy just kept jerking it around until it came out.another was able to stick something long in from the back of the tray and get it,though any of these things run the risk of causing damage.otherwise one can try taking out the pre transfer guide in hopes of being able to get at it.
probably best to just take it back. "
Seems like you are not the first person to encounter this problem.
I'l keep searching around for another solution, but if you can, I recommend taking it back to where you bought it, as forcing or fiddling too much may break something, and void the warrenty.
Fixing a printer paper jam
When working with any printer it's inevitable that you'll encounter a paper jam. Below are the steps you'll want to follow when this occurs.
* To manually remove paper pull on the paper with both hands being careful not to tear the paper while pulling it. If you're unable to get to an edge of the paper that allows you to pull it you may need to manually rotate the gears that feed the paper through the printer.
