DCR-TRV30 Internal clock battery is end of life. It will not charge overnight or hold date/time set information between main battery changes. There is no replacement information in the user manual. Where is the access for the battery on the camcorder? Can this battery be replaced?

The Sony DCR TRV30 has no clock battery at all! It has though an accu inside, which charges from battery pack. You just need to use the camcorder regularly to keep the accu charged! Anyway, you can charge it every 4 months by connecting the camcorder to mains for 24 hours (or just not letting the batery pack get empty). But if the accu is completely "dead", you need a professional service to change it.

This small back-up battery on my Sony is under the main big power battery, it is like a large screw under the main power pack, I just turn that screw and the little round lid comes off to get to the little silver flat back-up one.
They are readily available from most good camera shops like Jesops for around £12 to £15 each.

tip

Nikon Coolpix keep resetting Time and Date and menu settings.

Hi.

I am listing this tip for the Nikon Coolpix 995, but the tip is valid for all Nikon Coolpix models.

The Nikon cool pix settings are saved into an internal memory.

The internal memory is maintained by an internal rechargeable battery, that is recharged from the main Li-Ion battery.

If you leave your Nikon overnight with no main battery, or if the Li-Ion batteries have drained, then the internal battery will also drain , resetting the clock and other settings, saved on the internal memory. The camera may even drain in about 6 hours depending on the camera, normally it takes at least 12 hrs to drain the clock battery.

If the internal battery is resetting immediately, after you set the clock, or just after few minutes, then the clock battery must be replaced.

The camera must be disassembled completely to replace the battery located on one of the two main internal boards.

Nikon says that the clock battery loosing charge is normal. I quote what they say on the publication titled " The Nikon Guide to digital photography with Coolpix"

"Backup battery of the clock
The clock-calendar is powered by a separate rechargeable battery, which is charged as necessary when the main battery is installed. If the camera has been stored with the main battery removed for a long period of time, the clock may need to be reset. Once the main battery has been reinserted, the clock battery will recharge in several hours, during which time the main battery should be left in the camera."

If the clock does not work at all, and is resetting immediately, even though the Li-Ion batteries are fully charged, then the best thing to do is calling Nikon, at the number listed on the owners manual, telling them that you did not do any improper use of the camera, and trying to get the fault repaired as factory defect. That is not always possible, and the decision depends on Nikon customer service.

Everytime I turn on my camera it asks me to set date/time. It goes to the default date/time setting of 00.00.0000 00:00 mm/dd/yy. What do I do to set the date/time so that it permanent? The photos are...

It takes around four hours for a freshly charged main battery to charge the internal backup battery. It you do that and it still doesn't charge it, you need a new internal battery. The fully charged internal battery in most of them will hold the charge for up to 3 weeks with the main battery out of the camera.

ASUS U50F Notebook - since purchased January 2010 the date changes by itself sometimes going ahead other times back to November 2009. Wondering if they have a fix for it yet!! Best Buy where I purchased...

Check the timezone if it is right. Timezone must base were you live. For example, if I live in Hongkong, this is my correct timezone - (UTC+08:00) Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Urumqi. Check also if the the settings of your date and time is set to windows. If it set to windows then the timezone is set to US then you live in Hongkong your date and time will always adjust to the time of US even if you always adjust your date and time to Hongkong. I hope my explanation is clear to you. =)

My internal backup battery is dead, can anyone tell me where to find the specs to replace the internal battery? and what type of internal battery is it? Thanks

If it's been a few months since you have used the camera it's normal to be dead.
Charge the camera and use it and the clock battery should come to life.

The camera will work fine even if the battery does not work, however, you will not be able to record time and date.

I have an Olympus 850sw and each time I turn it on it asks to enter the date and time. Why is that?

Most of the cameras with a date time clock have a secondary internal power source like a small watch type battery some point and shoot cameras use a storage cell which takes power from the main battery. This means when the main battery looses power the camera clock will hold a setting for about 1 day or 24 hours. To keep the camera clock set you need to keep a charge in the main battery. Here is a screen shot from the manual explaining this function.

I have had my S9600 for 4 years, for most of that time, when i changed the batteries, all my settings remained the same. Now, when i change the batteries, every setting has returned to factory standard...

No internal battery. After the batteries are in the camera for 2 hours, there is enough charge in the camera to hold on to settings for 6 hours. If you take longer than that to install fresh batteries, the settings are lost. Here's what the manual says:

DATE/TIME

DATE/TIME

OKOK:At the time of purchase and after leaving the camera for a

long period with the batteries removed, settings such as the

date and time are cleared. Once the AC power adapter has

been connected or the batteries have been installed for 2

hours or more, the camera settings will be retained for

roughly 6 hours even if both sources of power are removed.
