Your door bellows(boot) has black spores growing on iy and the outer drum has a build up of detergent and fabric softener and both need to be remover and cleaned, the soap and dirt form spores and mildew and this cauyses the odor problem you are talking about,it might help with bleach and hot water, but the only true way to rid this is to remove the inner drum and door boot and clean out the goo in the outer drum
Hi,
Unfortunately this is a common issue with low water consumption front loading washers.
Fortunately there is a pretty easy fix. There are products that work great in cleaning out the hidden area that the odors come from. I have put some information on this together, follow the link below to see how to resolve, let me know if is helpful.
Smelly Washer
Hi, I have a Whirlpool Duet and also had this problem. I will tell you where the smells come from.... I discovered that all Whirlpool Duet washer have a filter compartment that is located on the bottom front of the washer behind that cover. If you unscrew the 2 screws on the bottom sides of the cover you will be able to open it. Once opened you will see on the right side a lid, unscrew it .... just make sure you have a bucket underneath, there will be lots of water coming about 1/2 gallon of dirty smelly water. Make sure you remove any debries. You will see that this is what is causing the bad odor. This machines do not pump all the water after the wash and that little water stays there until the next wash and gets really smelly. Next time when you wash another load, that little smelly water gets mixed with new washing water as the machine fills up. I found that out when I washed a load of dark jeans and then the next load I washed my whites.... as the machine was filling up I tried to add a pair of white socks by pausing the machine. For my surprise I realize that the water was blueish, even though I only had white white clothes in. Yes, it is upsetting but that is the way it is. I did call the company and told them about this, the lady on the phone made a note and she agree. The only good advise I can give to this problem is that after the last wash from the day.... I run the rinse and spin cycle without clothes nor detergent, that way the water that gets trapped in the filter is clean. It makes a big difference!!!! Good luck.

there are two issues here, either the main plumbing is not plumped right, or you have water being left in the washing machine, meaning that the pump is not extracting the water properly. You can tell if it is your main plumbing by making sure that there is a T-Trap where the drain hose goes into the plumbing, and it is set in the upright position. You can also test it by pouring water down the drain or t-trap and make sure that you can hear the water draining. To make sure your machine pump is extracting all the water it is intended to, when you move the washer you will hear slashing of water in the machine, that means that the pump is not extracting all the water from the machine.
