SOURCE: pressure washer stalls

Pressure washers work under very dirty conditions, no wonder they encounter engine problems. Here are a few pointers from a former pressure pump tech. The unloader is a source of engine overloading however this can easily be checked with a pressure guage attached to the gun with a tee fitting having the guage and the normal tip used for the unit. The pressure should never rise over rated pressure. The pressure should drop considrably when trigger is released. The life of the pump and engine can be increased by setting max pressure to 75% of rating. Most engine problems are from following conditions:
Leaking or misadjusted valves; clogged muffer /spark arrester; weak spark coil that is about to fail completely; kill switch/oil sensor wiring and or sensor mal function; gas cap not venting properly causing vacuum in tank and wet or dirty air filter.
All these problems easy to check, fastest repair is to disconnect oil sensor wire to check oil safety system. Then temp replace coil with known good coil. Loosen muffer bolts to check for clogged muffler. Temp run engine without gas cap to check for vacuum. Finally if everything fails, run the engine with carb cleaner spraying directly into the intake. If the engine continues to run with carb cleaner then the problem is fuel delivey and faulty carb. enjoy

SOURCE: Honda Pressure Washer HP 5 not starting

You can try spraying some carburetor cleaner into the carb. If it starts for a minute, your carburetor need cleaning. When you added new gas did you remove the old gas first? Is the air filter clean?

I have fire and gas but will not start oil alert light on when crank

By fire I assume you mean spark at the plug. When turning the engine over with the key and the oil alert light comes on the spark is interrupted by grounding the system thus the engine cannot start.
First, look at the obvious things, check oil level if it is at the recommended level smell the dipstick if it has a strong smell of gas
change the oil and try to start it again. Be sure the plug is not soaked with raw fuel before you try the restart. I the problem persists you can disconnect the wire from the top of the low oil sensor.Try to start the gen. if it starts change the low oil sensor.
I hope this all makes sense to you , good luck with it.

Honda GX270 I have no spark. Where to start. Can oil alert be by passed?

Oil alert or the module where the oil alert wire plugs in to could be faulty. You can remove all the wires at the coil for test including the kill switch wire (always use a new spark plug for test, then place the new plug in stroage for later use). I test the coil off the engine on a growler. If the oil alert components are faulty, do not repair. Just check the oil more often. Good luck

Have a honda 11 horse on a north star power washer that has no spark, yes the switch is on.

Cause of no spark can be determined by process of elimination. Good to have a new sparkplug on hand to eliminate plug as fault. So start by replacing plug with new or test plug on mower /edger etc. for spark. If plug ok, then temporarily remove the wire connected to oil alert system (oil alert will ground coil if oil low or dirty). With oil alert unpluged, and no spark suspect sparkplug boot or coil. The sparkplug boot threads on to the spartplug wire and is what actually fits-on to the spark plug. You can test the coil by removing the boot and inserting piece of paperclip wire, or small screw into end of the coil wire and hold close to engine ground while pulling rope. If still no spark suspect coil. If spark, replace the boot. Good luck with repair.

My troy built 2200 pressure washer was running fine but then shut off instantly I then noticed it had low oil I filled it but now it won't start

9224467.jpg
Pressure washer takes oil in two places:
Pump oil is 20-30 weight SAE non detergent and comes half way up/ do not fill more than 1/2 way
Engine oil is 10W30 and comes half way up dip stick
IF you overfilled the oil >>> DO NOT turn power washer on it's side or upside down to drain oil >>> because engine oil will fill carburetor

When engine won't start
We pull off air filter so we have direct access to carburetor
Spray WD-40 into carburetor while starting
The engine will fire on the WD-40

You can keep spraying WD-40 into carburetor to keep engine running while moving choke to see if engine will run on it's own
Squeeze gun trigger so water comes out gun and pump pressure doesn't stop engine

If engine will not fire on WD-40
Spark is suspect
Your spark plug gets power from ignition coil
If coil is bad you get no spark > and coil needs needs replacement
Take out spark plug, clean it with WD-40 and use a bit of sandpaper in the spark gap
Put spark wire back on plug
Touch threads of spark plug to metal part of engine > pull cord and look for sparking between spark plug and engine
If you do NOT have any sparking, then coil is bad
If you HAVE spark, then your spark plug needs cleaning or replacement

If engine fires on WD-40 but will not keep running
Then either fuel or carburetor are suspect
Loosen hex nut on fuel filter located below gas tank >> if fuel flows, then re-tighten hex
Next, pull off rubber hose connected to carburetor to see if fuel flows to carburetor
If fuel is flowing to carburetor, then the carburetor is suspect.
Small engine repair shop will have carburetor cleaners

Check exhaust
There is a screen over exhaust
Make sure it is clean of carbon build-up > Use WD-40

Change air filter

Was running fine till ran out of gas ........fill tank up ...try to restart it .......wont start replaced plug ........still no go .

Recurring issues with honda engine no start. Engine was thought to be out of gas however engine was actually shut down by oil alert. Check/change oil to reset, or unplug wire from oil alert and check engine. Vacuum in fuel system due to faulty fuel cap. Loosen cap to allow air in tank. Water in fuel. Water will condense out of the fuel in fuel container and will be introduced into tank. Water is heavier than fuel and will enter carb bowl. Check engine fuel tank with flashlight for signs of water, remove fuel bowl (shut off fuel) and clean. Spark plug is rarely issue, however could be wet from too much choke. Good luck

I have a honda 8.0 GX240 on a generator and when i go to start it. It acts like it isnt getting a spark the engine isnt turning over i checked the plug and fuel lines and still nothing

Is there sufficient oil in the crankcase? Most all generators have an oil level sensor that shuts down the ignition if the oil level gets low.
