Intermittent DSL connection. Frequent need to reboot modem.

I have a Speedstream 5360 DSL modem with service through AT&T. Until recently, my DSL connection has been very reliable. For the last several weeks my DSL connection has been cutting out intermttently. The Windows 7 network troubleshooter identifies the problem as coming from the modem and recommends rebooting the modem. This usually works, however, the problem recurs and I need to reboot the modem every hour.

The modem always presents with the normal 3 green lights (power, DSL and enet) even when there is no internet connection. There should be no interference, since our wireless phones are DECT.

I have recheck all wired connections and even taken my wireless router (D-Link DIR-655) out of the loop -- connecting the modem directly to my PC -- but this has not helped.

Any suggestions? Is this 7 year-old modem giving up the ghost?

The modem is already old and obselete try to upgrade the modem. even though the lights on your modem works. try to call ATT because they can run a line test so they can determine if the connection is good or not

DSL connection (Modem) problem

Contact AT&T DSL support for help in getting your network to work. And do not believe them if they tell you your modem is no good. They want to shut down their DSL service and will go to any length, lying included, to get people to change over to their fiber optic system.

Intermittent ADSL connection

The DSL light blinking or going out indicates that the DSL modem is loosing sync. This is usually caused by noise on the line. When you get the DSL service you should be given filters to put on all of your phones so that the phones will not interfere with the DSL signal. Those filters need to be attached to anything connected to the phone line that has the DSL on it except for the DSL modem. Other than that the problem could be on the service providers end, something outside your home, or the DSL modem going out. I would suggest that you verify everything is filtered, then contact your service provider so they can run test on your DSL line.

Modem cold to touch

hey hi,

frequent disconnectes suggest tat u might have an intermittent sync prob that might be due to,

1 )filter problem(filter is a small box ,it is also called as splitter that splits ur broad band connectivity and telephone line)
so try isolating the filter that isz
connect the cable runnin at the back of ur modem directly into ur wall jack.
this will probably solve the problem

2)next reason is , it might be a line issue pls cal ur broad band help desk they ll sort it out

ur modems temperature has nothing to do with this.
try this n let me know .

INSTALL A MODEM

The 5360 is techncially a bridge, not a modem, so it doesn't require software drivers for installation and operation.
There is a 5360 firmware upgrade, but it should only be used in certain situations -- see Related Articles at right for further information.

Note that DSL and cable bridges are often called "modems" because that is the familiar term for a device that connects the residential user to the ISP.
