Camera likely has a common short that comes up on the G9 camera. You just need to get the camera serviced and you'll be back in business again. The site that specializes in service for the powershots is: camerasandparts.com They're amazing if you need help with one of these, that's all they deal with. The good thing with them is they do the correction so that common short never comes back again on the G9. Good luck, that's the place if you need help with a powershot model, they're excellent when it comes to service for these.

My G9 was dropped 4 feet onto cement. I already have a G12, but is it worth having the G9 checked? The lens will not retract & the message upon powering up is "Lens error. Restart camera."

Definitely worth fixing, the G9 is an amazing camera and many will argue it is better than most of the other models that came out after. Since you have a Powershot, you can have it repaired through www.camerasandparts.com They just deal with the Canons and they are not expensive at all. It runs $89 for everything if you just get their lens error service package. They cover parts, labor, servicing of the whole camera, with shipping back included for $89. The best part, they do outstanding work on the Powershots. If you're going to have it serviced, I would go through them. Ultimately you'd need to decide if it's worth the $89 to have a good backup camera, if not I'll take it off your hands. In all honesty, the G9's are great cameras, don't think twice. Have it serviced and enjoy the camera again. That would be my advice.

The problem you have will require the camera being serviced. A reall good place to get help with the G9's is www.camerasandparts.com They only service Canon Powershots and they are really great for these. With them, you would pay $89 for the service package and that covers everything on the repair and the service on the camera included. They're really great if you need help with a Powershot. When you click on that link I gave you it will take you to their site. Look under their complete service packages and you'll see the lens error service there for the G9. I hope that helps with it.

My Canon Powershot G9 suddenly stopped working yesterday. It's just stuck with the lens extended. I've checked and the battery is OK. Nothing's working..no LCD screen, won't switch on or off etc.

This is a really common problem on the G7 and the G9. They get no power all of a sudden when two screws from inside the camera get loose and cause a short. It's not a cleaning as was suggested, your camera actually needs to be repaired. There's a great shop that only specializes in service for the the Canon Powershot cameras and they have this exact fix on their site. They charge $89 for everything. That takes care of parts, labor, the services for the G9, return shipping and they give you a pretty good warranty on the whole camera once it's been serviced. The cool thing with them is they do the correction to the two screws inside the G7's and the G9's that causes this no power problem. Here is the site where you can have it serviced: www.camerasandparts.com Everything comes out to $89 and they are awesome for service on the Canon Powershots. I hope this helps, all the best with it.

Go with this place: www.camerasandparts.com They are about half of what Canon charges and they do awesome work on the Canon Powershots. All they specialize in are the Canons, they do really great work and they are so much less than Canon on the service.
