Same here. HP told us their printers are disposable and that we should upgrade! The printer only has about 10k copies thru it! HP stuff is designed to fail. Junk! Never again.

I had this same exact problem. Try doing:
1. Unplug the power cord from printer.
2. Hold both o.k and Cancel simultaneously.
3. Plug the power cable while holding the buttons.

After I did this my printer reconfigured like it used to do and it was like it was new again.... well new plus a headache a managed to get while reading all these little posts. I hope this helps!

I had to go through multiple tries of Solution 2 above and the procedure of holding down OK, Cancel, Black and Color buttons while turning it off. I turned it back on, it shut off and I turned it back on again. Sure enough, it did a maintenance cycle and it works again.

Neither of these two worked the first time but after 3-4 times of doing both, TA DAH, it went through a lengthy maintenance cycle and then started working. Persistence paid off.

I had this same error code, follow the solution in April, the equipment off the power cord, then simultaneously pressing the OK + CANCEL, and entered a long maintenance cycle, and it worked. I did the procedure twice and the second was ok. Thanks for the tip.

Error 0xc18a0101 persists. Have tried solution given earlier for 0xc18a0001 without success. Ink system failure not resetting; all cartridges are full.

Its tricky mechanism, once printer detects ink system failed it cannot be resetted. Do this take out cartridges from printer., open right cover., find out logic card., remove cmos battery., wait for 5 minutes., refix batyery., power on the printer., follow the screen messges ... I hope it will solve the issue..

"Ink system has failed. Unable to print. Refer to printer documentation. Error: 0xc18a0101 Turn power off, then on again."

The first problem is you have an ink jet consumer printer. Go to their support site and search that error code. That may help, but don't count on it. HP is notorious for selling defective products and have lost more than one class action suites. you can try these steps http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00489814&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3204785&tmp_track_link=ot_search
But it could also be the error for when the ink resovors are full in the bottom of the machine. It will stop working by design then. If it were to over flow you would see where all that ink went you been buying, so they stop the machine before that happens. Best advice is take it to the nearest dumpster and deposit it inside it, and buy a laser printer. It was the best thing I ever did.

I have a HP photosmart 3310. I'm getting the error:Oxc18a0101 message. I've tried a couple of suggested solutions ut neither has worked. Help!

Hi,

1- Turn off power and unplug from power source.
2- Open right side of printer (looking at the front).
3- Disconnect,by pulling gently, both white flat ribbon cables off the main circuit board.
4- Plug in power source and turn printer on. Wait till you get a error message and push "Ok".
5- Unplug power source.
6- Reconnect the flat ribbon cables by aligning and carefully pushing into the conectors on the main circuit board.
7- Plug in power source and turn printer on (Printer preparing occurred).
8- voila, the nasty error message 0xc18a0001 "Ink System has Failed" is now gone

Try this and it works

0xc18a0106 error from hp 3310 printer.... ink system has failed

That error code indicates a Ink system failure error message. Ink system failed mainly caused by your cartridge spitting extra inks into the copper contacts inside the printer. All you need is to remove all cartridge, clean the copper contacts at the back of it, clean also the contacts inside the printer (cartridge slots). Insert it back in after cleaning, unplug the power cord without turning off the printer, wait for 1 min before plugging it back in. Let me know the result.

Have a hp 3310 it says ink system failure error 0xc18a0106 it wont print, scan, copy and it does have enough ink. thank 4 ur help

Turn off the machine using the power button, unplug the power cord from the back of the machine, remove the ink cartridges, wait 2 min, plug the power cord back in, press the on button, wait until the printer prompts that the ink cartridges are missing, then replace the ink cartridges. If this doesn't clear the error then you may need to re-prime ink through the system to clear the error. There are good instructions for doing this at http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/hp-photosmart-ink-system-failure-1/.
