Kenmore 44083 Cooktop

Maybe these steps will help. It would be better if we knew the brand and model but here's my fix for my kenmore

I had to look this up as well:
To unlock the cooktop:
1. Turn all burners to the OFF position.
2, Press and hold the TOP keypad for 5 seconds.
You will hear a single tone and lock off will disappear from the display.

The white one may just form an earth loop,, I recently had a ceramic plate needing cleaned so we did the whole lot, I think most hobs have 4 wires and they are numbered rather than colour coded..hope this helps

I was cleaning my range hood and leaning over I somehow set the lock on the cook top. How do I unlock it?

On page 7, it reads as follows:

To Lock Cooktop: Touch and hold the CONTROL LOCK/
ALL OFF keypad for 5 seconds. After 5 seconds, CONTROL
LOCK will glow red, indicating that the cooktop touch controls
are in the lockout position.

To Unlock Cooktop: Touch and hold the CONTROL LOCK/
ALL OFF keypad for 5 seconds.

Thanks for posting to Fixya I will be helping you today. You have posted that you have a Kenmore Elite 44173 electric cooktop with a problem. However, you also mention your are having trouble with the oven not working. This post maybe categorized wrong but I will try to answer you question for both a range and oven control.

Sometimes on a cooktop customers will lockout the controls on accident while cleaning. Usually there is a button on the control that you hold for 4 seconds +/- and there is a little simbol of a padlock next to it or you might have to check the owners manual.

Lastly, Ranges may also have a lock out feature that the customer must press 4 seconds too unlock. On select models controls may also be locked out by putting their oven into sabbath mode. Usually the display will indicate a "SAB" to alert that this feature has been set.

*In general the above instructions should help if your unit is locked out.

If Shr (5hr) appears on the display then the cooktop is in showroom mode. To exit showroom mode the cooktop must be locked by pressing and holding the key symbol for 5 seconds. After the cooktop is locked, press and hold the melt touch pad for 5 seconds.

I could be of much better help with a complete model number I.e. (example 110.XXXXX)

The wait is supposed to be 10 minutes. go back and turn off your breaker by "Physically" pushing it with conviction to the OFF position and wait 10 minutes.

If after 10 minutes the cooktop is STILL locked:

Push the touch pad that looks like a padlock for at least 5 seconds. The lock light should go out.

If it does not go out I will need your model number to go any further.

Either hold down the 'Unlock' button or if the little red pad lock symbol is lid in the main display hold the 'Oven light' button for about 7 seconds...

I have a Kenmore Elite Induction Cooktop and we had some milk boil over and now the cooktop is locked. How do you unlock it?
