Thanks for the info. I went to BIOS and changed the boot sequence from HDD to CD-ROM and put my XP CD in. On re-boot, it booted from the CD and I started the load sequence. I received an error message telling me that there was no HDD connected. I went back to the BIOS and the HDD was gone completely. I ran HDD self-test diagnostic and it passed both the quick and the conp test. After the system begins to boot and I hit escape, it brings up a choice to boot from CD-ROM, then HDD, then go to BIOS. This time, instead of going to BIOS I selected boot from HDD (to see if it really was there). It booted to the hal.dll message indicating to me that the HDD is fine. What I don't get is why the CD-ROM XP sequence doesn't recognize the HDD when the diagnostic and boot sequence say it is there? More ideas?
XP wont be able to detect your hdd as you are using a SATA drive. You have two options here
1. Disable SATA function in the bios (easier to do) and use again your XP cd to install the software, it should be able to detect the hdd this time around
2. You have to slip stream the SATA driver to your XP CD and recreate another CD from it. (harder to do). Google "SATA driver slipstream XP" you will be directed to the proper sites
