Reading 2of5 is enabled by default on the metrologic and I had already verified that. The problem turned out to be that the bar code that was generated by someone else did not have the correct start and stop codes. Thanks.Reading 2of5 is enabled by default on the metrologic and I had already verified that. Thanks for reminding me not to assume. I had thought you were scanning more than one I2/5by more than one source and was too ready to blame it on the scanner. It's always good to be reminded to consider the whole picture. Glad you were able to solve your problem. Thanks for reminding me not to assume. You have to set-up the barcode scanner in the manual. The most common mistake is not scanning the "host" option. The scanner default is "no host" It will not work until you enable the appropriate "host" option by scanning that particular barcode. Read the manual. Contact the Honeywell Help Desk (they bought Metrologic)
Some bar code symbologies can be read in part (such as Interleaved 2 of 5). Then check the following: the laser reader is clean, and the application can restrict the reading to a fixed number (8 for example) only to read barcodes of fixed length.
What type of cable are you using to connect to a host?
You will need to configure the scanner for that type of connection, for example, usb, keyboard wedge, serial etc.
If you have purchased it new, you should have the configuration barcodes on the instruction manual, otherwise you wil be able to download the full manual from metrologic website.
This would be a fault with the scan engine. The dot is created when the mirror inside of the scan engine is not oscillating. The best solution is to have the device repaired, hopefully your scanner is still under warranty, or to purchase a replacement.

I'm using the same Barcode reader, the Metrologic MS9535 VoyagerBT.
The brief humming noize is called a "Rasbery tone" in the manual. It means that the barcode reader is not configured to read that kind of barcode, a barcode Code if you will.
There are many types of barcodes so you have to go to the Metrologic Website and get the Barcode Configuration tool to configure your barcode reader to read the type of codes you will be using.
Alternatively there is a book with configuration barcodes you can scan to configure your barcode reader manually.
You can reset back to original setting using your manual. If you are using cash register you need to look for the right settings in order the scanner will working.
Usually Barcode devices come with a code book to program them,
This is usually contained in the user manual, and will be several pages of barcodes,
using these barcodes you can set the options of your handheld device, including what types of barcodes it can read and other options like output formats and seperator characters, you should also be able to change whether it beeps or not,
Reading 2of5 is enabled by default on the metrologic and I had already verified that. The problem turned out to be that the bar code that was generated by someone else did not have the correct start and stop codes. Thanks.
