GE JVM1650 Spacemaker XL Microwave Over Oven. The light, exhaust fan and turntable no longer work when using the microwave. They would all come on when heating items. The exhast fan does work when using touhpad controls. The turntable is turned on. And the oven light does not come on when the door is even opened. It appears there is some sort of contact switch that enables these functions that may be broken.
I would assume that this is something that I must dispatch a service technician.

By hub drive, do you mean the turntable coupler?
You can see and hear a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPSWi_z7M58
If yours won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.
To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven. You may have to cut the cover off with snips, then use a screw when reassembling it.
You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383
NOTE: There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

Most likely a bad turntable motor - check with www.martinmicrowave.com for a replacement .

It sounds like the main transformer has failed. It would be cheaper to replace the whole microwave than repair this one. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Hope this helps. Good luck.
