MAKE TWO PASSES SET THE DEPTH GUIDE SO IT JUST BREAKS THE GROUND, DON'T TRY TO DO IT ALL AT ONCE. SOON AS THE GROUND IS LOOSE IT WILL DIG MUCH BETTER.. IT SHOULD HAVE A FORWARD AND REVERSE FOR THE TINES, GEARS FOR FORWARD REVERSE DRIVE

Where do I find the model number and serial number, it is an old troy bilt rear tine tiller, two speed

The older models do not have an actual model number but only a name to distinguish the size. Early production models include the Horse, Pony and Junior. You must find the location of the serial number tag to order parts that will fit your particular rototiller for seamless replacement of parts. Hope this will help

New tines now gets away from me

double check to make sure you have the new tines in the right direction. also you could try to raise your machine, as the new tines are digging better it might not have to be as low as you had to go with your old ones.

I can't move my Troy-Bilt tiller unless it's running.

Some Troy Bilt Tillers were designed with a manual "free-wheel". If yours is a Tuffy (and maybe a Junior), you have to pull pins out of the wheels to move the tiller without starting it. The larger tillers, Pony's and Horses, had a lever to shift to release the wheels.

How to remove rear tines to replace seals ?

The tines sometimes get frozen to the shaft. You might try penatrating oil and use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat to loosen.
Also tap wiht a hammer around shaft.

My rear tine tiller lurches out of control when I use it

Hi it sounds like you are trying too till the soil with the tiller in the fast position and probably too deep for your first pass. Really the fast position is for transporting the tiller from the field. Try putting the tiller in slow which would be the down position. Turn the throttle all the way foward, engage the tines and push your depth rod on the back down to where it is only going into the soil about four inches or even less depending on the hardnes of the soil. Even though a Troy is the best Tiller made it will try to run away with you when your trying to hog the soil all at once. Your depth setting is very important and people seem to forget the importance of adjusting it. Try these things, and remember to alway's start your tilling in the slow full throttle position. Lowering your depth a little at a time. Till you find the appropriete feed for your speed.
