Maytag Washing Machine Out of Balance Even When Empty

I have owned a Maytag Centenial series top loading washing machine for about 3 mouths. The machine gets used maybe 3 times per week at the most. I have begun to notice that the washing machine gets easily out of balance during the spin cycle. I am very careful in how I load the machine with the cloths to help prevent this from happening. Now I have noticed that the machine seems to have excessive vibration during the spin cycle even when it's empty. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You

The machine is not level... put a level across front back sides to check adjust legs leveling bolts as needed.... also is the machine installed on a carpet floor??? if yes put a sheet of plywood under machine so it wont "bounce" on floor.

SOURCE: Leak from maytag top load coin machine during spin drain cycle only

Possible that you would have a tub seal leak if it is only noticable during spin cycle. Possible that it "drips" slightly while in agitation, but not enough to notice it. While in spin mode you have a lot more parts moving as well as a lot more water pressure on the seal itself. Pump could also be leaking, but highly doubtful since it would leak a constant amount at all times. Good Luck!!! Jim

Hiya .. would suggest you having a look at the balance around the drum, ( normally heavy concrete blocks)... locate the fixing bolts and tighten them up ....should sort your prob.
Also make sure that the washer is fairly even and tight on its legs.. this is what usually causes the problem in the first place..

SOURCE: off balance spin cylce

The base of the tub assembly rests on a white plastic ring called a 'snubber'. If any type of lubricant gets in this area, the tub will wobble excessively. The major cause for this issue is a failed transmission where oil has leaked out and into the snubber. The transmission may be warranted for 10 years. Check your owners manual. A good method to check for oil is to tilt the machine back and remove the plastic cover in the center of the pulley, if it contains oil, the transmission is leaking also look at the inside cabinet wall for signs of oil splatter.

SOURCE: Out of balance top load washer

This was my fix, my machine that would error out with DC/UC codes.

I just did a repair on my FAV6800AAW by lubricating the needle bearings in the clutch pulley hub, the tub displacement sensor checked OK per the service manual check. I was getting dc/uc errors in the spin cycle, washer was purchased in 7/05. I have basic mechanical skills and used a socket wrench to remove clutch pulley, just follow the service manual removal steps to remove the clutch pulley. Pull the plastic cover off the clutch pulley and inspect the spring, clean/lube needle bearings and the clutch hub coupler that drives spinner shaft. I used WD40 I may need to re-lube down the road with a good light grease. It took a few tries for me to get the clutch pulley to stay on after re-install and power up, getting the clutch pulley seated properly is the trick. I did not remove the washer tub for this fix, I believe I saw a posting where someone did. I just leaned the washer back to get a better reach angle, it is a tight work area. I did not want to junk 4 yr old $1k machine with out trying a fix. If you want to work on this model get the service manual, good luck!

This model of washer does not have an out of balance cut off switch. If the load is not balanced properly the tub could hit the cabinet sides. If the unit spins evenly while empty & out of balance while loaded, I recommend checking & balancing the load. If the basket spins out of balance while empty, I recommend having the suspension springs & balance ring checked. Be sure not to wash light fabric with heavy fabric clothes. Also ensure that the adjustable feet are level, that's most important.

Gets out balance almost all the time .

check in tub, plastic ring at top, not the bright white top one but the off-white one underneath. gap between rings should be even all way around. push down on it, if it seems to click into place then it has come unhooked, rubbed against the upper ring, worn a hole in itself and filled with water. Do you get little granules of plastic in the clothes? Machine will not balance like that even empty. Replace the ring (pain in the...)

My Maytag goes out of balance and bangs loudly

This is usually due to the floor not being perfectly level, and as a consequence the washing machine not standing firmly on all 4 supports.
There should be at least 2 adjustable feet under the machine, try to make it stand as level as possible, with uniform load on all four.
If you have a bubble level it may help you establish, if there's an obvious slope on your floor and adjust the machine so that it's well levelled.
Good luck!
