What setting do you change on a Lexmark T654 printer to get it to pull paper from tray 2 when tray 1 empties?
For the majority of the Lexmark printers, all that needs to be done is to set the paper size and type the same for each drawer. Example - drawer 1 & 2 sizes are set to letter, drawer 1 & 2 paper types are set to plain. Set up this way, when drawer 1 empties, the printer will automatically switch to drawer 2 to supply the paper.
You might need to install the tray 2, to do it go to, properties>install option. then choose the right driver and install, after that the tray 2 should appear on ''printing prefences''. this worked for me, I hope works for you guys.

Verify your settings under the Paper Menu are correct as far as size and type. All trays with same size and type settings are automatically linked as per the User Guide.
SOURCE: paper source
I would suggest checking printer properties in the computer and ensure the paper size and source is Letter and set to Automatic Choose. Another choice may be to deleted the printer driver and re-install it. You can also go into the menu options until you get to Set factory defaults, press Select, then try the print job again.
I really suspect a program is controlling this from the computer.
To get a list of the existing printer settings, Select Menu and use the Right Arrow button until you get to Printer Menu Settings. The printed report should tell you what your actuall settings are. Maybe the default is set to Custom, instead of Letter.
The Set Factory Defaults option should fix most problems.

Try pulling out the tray and looking for the feed rollers that pull the paper up into the printer. The 2 rollers should have rubber "shoes" on them (they look like thick black rubber bands). Remove these roller "shoes", turn them inside-out, and put them back on the rollers. This worked for me, maybe it will work for you too.
If job prints from the wrong tray or on the wrong paper or specialty media, this is an indication that the operator panel menu settings do not match the media loaded in the tray.
Make sure the Paper Size and Paper Type specified in the printer driver match the paper size and type in the tray.
