For the majority of the Lexmark printers, all that needs to be done is to set the paper size and type the same for each drawer. Example - drawer 1 & 2 sizes are set to letter, drawer 1 & 2 paper types are set to plain. Set up this way, when drawer 1 empties, the printer will automatically switch to drawer 2 to supply the paper.

You might need to install the tray 2, to do it go to, properties>install option. then choose the right driver and install, after that the tray 2 should appear on ''printing prefences''. this worked for me, I hope works for you guys.

Verify your settings under the Paper Menu are correct as far as size and type. All trays with same size and type settings are automatically linked as per the User Guide.

SOURCE: paper source

I would suggest checking printer properties in the computer and ensure the paper size and source is Letter and set to Automatic Choose. Another choice may be to deleted the printer driver and re-install it. You can also go into the menu options until you get to Set factory defaults, press Select, then try the print job again.
I really suspect a program is controlling this from the computer.
To get a list of the existing printer settings, Select Menu and use the Right Arrow button until you get to Printer Menu Settings. The printed report should tell you what your actuall settings are. Maybe the default is set to Custom, instead of Letter.
The Set Factory Defaults option should fix most problems.

SOURCE: E240 LEXMARK WON'T PULL PAPER FROM TRAY 2

Try pulling out the tray and looking for the feed rollers that pull the paper up into the printer. The 2 rollers should have rubber "shoes" on them (they look like thick black rubber bands). Remove these roller "shoes", turn them inside-out, and put them back on the rollers. This worked for me, maybe it will work for you too.

Lexmark T644 Drawer 2 Missing error message but drawer 2 is in place. Drawer 2 always has problems pulling form form drawer when printing from drawer 2.

If job prints from the wrong tray or on the wrong paper or specialty media, this is an indication that the operator panel menu settings do not match the media loaded in the tray.

Make sure the Paper Size and Paper Type specified in the printer driver match the paper size and type in the tray.

The printer used to automatically pull from tray 3 once tray 2 was empty - it's not doing that anymore so I have to press the OK button on the control panel!

Make sure that both tray 2 and 3 are set for the same size and paper type. This printer will not skip to the next tray if the paper is different. There is also a setting you can set for tray behviour which basically tells the printer to use selected tray exclusively or use whatever tray has the media that matches. HP printers will normally pull from the highest numbered tray that matches the paper type, so that your printer used to pull from 2 first and 3 second tells me that both trays are likley not configured for the same media.

Lexmark T632 has 2 (ea) 500 sheet drawers, but once the paper runs out in Drawer 1 it will not automatically pull from Drawer 2. Please advise how to fix this problem.

go to Menu, reports, and print out the top report.

This will show you what the printer sees as the default tray, and what paper size and type are set for each tray.

If you have plain paper in each tray, make sure that the setting page also shows that each tray is set to letter, plain.

This printer sets the tray type automatically, based on the way the tray is set. There are little tabs on the side of the tray that change as you change the size of the paper with the paper guides.

If the paper guide is set even one click off, this can cause the printer to read the paper size incorrectly, and thus will not change to the next tray. ( if it thinks that tray 2 is A4 paper, but you are printing letter, it will not change to tray 2).

if the trays ARE set correctly, but the printer is still reading it wrong, then there could be something wrong with the sensor ( metal fingers and switch ) inside the printer.

How do I have printer switch from empty paper tray 1 to the full 550 paper tray 2

Make sure the paper type and size in both trays are the same. If you are using letter size for both trays, make sure the settings in tray 1 and 2 are the same. If the settings are the same and it still fails to grab from the full tray change the engine settings in diag mode. Hope this helps but if you need more assistance, leave a comment and I'll get back to it. Thanks.

Won't use tray 2 when tray 1 is empty

Have you tried checking that tray 2 has the same paper type as tray 1. If your machine is network attached, you can access the embedded web server (where device settings can be adjusted) by entering the device IP address into a browser. Find the web address from the machine by going to menu (key icon), reports, then arrow over to network set up page. NSP is a 1 page report which will tell you the IP address. Go to a web browser and type in that IP address. Should take you to your device web page. From that page you can change the device settings (click on settings and then paper menu). Check to be sure that the same paper type is set for both tray 1 and tray 2 (and be sure that tray 2 is showing up on the list). I had to power the printer back on for it to recognize tray 2. Hope it helps
