can your system recognize your drive

OK look any drive, that's is the format, ie: STA or IDE? and that will fit will work, that 320GB will be OK. Simply install the HDD in the bay, and then use a windows installation disk, or similar to format it, just format it as ONE big partition, that should be fine, IF you find that it will not "See" the HDD, then partition it into smaller partitions. However you should be OK. You need to FIRST test to see if the actual PC is OK, try a HDD before you buy a new one, make sure that it is actually working.

Hard drives do not like being dropped, especially if they were running at that time.
Most likely the hard drive has failed completely.

DID YOU GO COMPUTER MANAGEMENT AND RUN THE WIZARD? THERE YOU CAN FORMAT SO IT WILL BE RECOGNIZED. HOPE THIS HELPS

looks like u primary hard drive is inside the laptop and so should be displayed as c : drive ,

and the reason , the external hard drive is not displayed seperately is csue ., the external HD  may be added as slave to the internal HD .,

can u tell me ,make a right click on c:/ drive and choose properties : and tell the totalsize dispalyed 

bad driver chip... call the manufacturer.. have the HDD changed...

• I suppose there is a jumper(beside the power pin) on your new HDD,
• if its true the your HDD supports 3GB/s mode but your motherboard does not .
• So place the jumper on the HDD on 1.5GB/s combination.

then

• Disconnect the 80 GB,
• Connect the new HDD,
• Boot from any bootable xp or vista or any disk tool like erd commander and try to format the new HDD.
• Then connect the new HDD and boot from it.

i think u have to partitioned your hdd.
go to computer management right clikm my computer icon then u see manage then clik on it.
then go to disk management.then u se your hardisk then partiotion the river then u can see all capacity.

Yes. The case doesn't care what size the drive is. The computer is just asking for the USB driver for the case. Check the WD site for the driver for the model of MyBook that you have. That should cover it.

Don't worry...You have just to buy new external...Hdd is fine...
