I love this amp and am reluctant to just throw it out; however, one of the channels seems to have finally given up. Is it repair-able? I believe it may be just the volume pot and I believe (although I'm a complete non-techie) that compatible spares can be bought from RS Components.
I believe I've found a technician who specialises in repairing vintage hi-fi and I'm hoping to take it to his workshop in the next week or so.
It's great to know you're out there and I may well be back if this chap can't fix it.
Many thanks,

I don't have a lot to go on here, but the amp should be repairable without too much expense. What specifically are the symptoms? Is it just that one channel is out or is that channel weak or distorted? I assume that you have checked for speaker fuses. Update this with a few more details, and I should be able to give you specifics.

YOU ARE NOT RIGHT IT SHOULD GIVE AT LAEST A LOW VOLUME SOUND WITH A LOT OF DISTORSION AND A CRACKING NOISE IF DOES I GUESS THAT YOU HAD THIS AMP IN A PLACE WITH A LOT OF HUMIDITY AND YOU HAVEN'T WORK IT FOR SOME TIME IF I AM RIGHT PUT YOUR AMP IN THE SUN AND WORK IT FOR 10 MIN WITH A 5 MIN BREAK LET ME KNOW THE RESULTS
Before we throw in the towel, turn it off and exercise every control a lot of times throughout its range, particularly the Tape Selectors. Sometimes oxides will develop on seldom used controls and their 'normally closed' contacts will not pass a signal.
Since it is a Rotel, it is a good unit and worth fixing. At this point, you need to take it to a good repair shop and let a qualified tech look at it. There are no user serviceable parts inside and if you go poking around in there, you WILL make the problem worse. Rotels' are nice units and represent a good value in stereo gear. Take it to a reputable repair shop that repairs Rotel under warranty. If thats not available to you, then a good repair shop should be able to get you going. Good luck...Rob
I'd suspect that one of the two output transistors on that channel has gone bad. If you are unsure how to test or troubleshoot this, then you might try replace both the NPN and PNP outputs and catch the bad one that way. If your amp uses an output module then you would of course have to replace the module which would replace all the output transistors on both channels. Good luck. Another thing to look out for, is the emitter bias resistors. They are the large white ceramic ones near the outputs. Sometimes one of those will open up too. They will be of a very small resistance value like .5 ohms (point five ohms) or something in that general ballpark, and have a wattage value of typicaly 5 watts. So they are pretty big resistors. Be sure to check them all even if you do find a bad output transistor. They will often go out with the transistor. Good luck.
if you say you checked the wireing ,did you check the speaker. disconnect on of the other speakers and connect up the center to see if you get sound. still no sound speakers bad. Got sound try unpluging unit for a couple of hours then try it again. still no center . Time for the repair shop. Good Luck
