The head phone jack in the Sherwood receiver has dirty contacts. If the head phones work in another device, that proves there is nothing wrong with them. When phones are plugged in the Sherwood, shows s problem with the receiver. When the head phones are not plugged in and both external speakers come on, it means nothing regarding head phones. Contact cleaner could be used to fix the problem.
The headphone jack needs to be replaced. Sound gets switched from speakers to headphone there. When the headphone plug is removed from the tablet the connection inside the jack is lost.
it shows that the headphone may gone bad, or the jack of your pc needs repair, check your headphone to some other computer if it ok then go for repair the jack from some qualified technician
If the head phone jack works its more likely to be the problem, if you use the headphone jack a lot the connections inside it can get worn or bent out of shape--engaging the headphone jack should shut the speakers in the unit off.
Other possible reason is a bad speaker or connections.
The jack when inserted is supposed to cut the main speakers off---the only suggestions I have would be:
Contact the MFR. customer service to see what options they can offer
Consider if the set has connections for external speakers to look for one you can put close to her---some of those units also have a jack for headphones that will not turn main speakers off--just the one in the external unit.
ibm sound card is not faulty, because you are getting sound with your head phone. The head phone jack have two functions 1. to give output to head phone 2. to disconnect internal speakers when you plug in head phone. The jack for headphone in normal position not give connectivity to internal speakers. SOLUTION : REPLACE THE HEADPHONE JACK. I think it will help you.
Hi if you are having head phone are giving you different sound from different head phones you have a head phone jack that is not connection properly. Some times the head phone jack can be replaced and that will fix it. other times the whole main board will have to be replaced due to a chip on the main board is whats causing the sound to change like it does. Try moving the jack around by twisting it and moving it from side to side while in the players whole. If the sound seems to change, start working on both side or you get static. as long as the sound you are getting is not staying the same then I would say its the head phone jack itself. It the sound stays the same witch is sounds like ti doesn't from what you have stated then it would be the main board. Either way something needs to be repaired.

Check whether the mute switch is activated by mistake. Check speakers. If there is a head-phone jack check the jack. Try with head phones. If it's ok check the head phone jack contacts inside.
Finally the audio circuit board and its components.
When it was knocked over it may have cracked the main circuit board, but does the pilot light come on at all? If the pilot light comes on but no sound is output from the speaker try plugging some headphones into the head phone jack and then turn it on and see if you can hear sound in the headphones. I have had a similar problem before and the main speaker had gone bad but it would still play thru the head phone jack.
I had this problem also on my acer aspire 5520. This laptop has 2 3.5mm jacks. It was a bit embarrassing, but I had the headphones plugged into the input jack. Make sure that you have the head phones jack plugged into the correct jack.
