Hi
Latitude D620 battery module has a battery charge tester. First remove the battery or turn the laptop over and press the battery icon and the note the battery LED indication.
If there is no LEDs lite, shut down the laptop, connected the power Adaptor, install the battery and check if the battery charge LED lites up.
If it doesn't double check the power Adaptor. Latitude D620 is rated to use a 90W Adaptor. There is a 60W Adaptor (looks very similar to) but this is for other Latitudes and AMD Vostro systems.
If the Adaptor has the correct rating, then check below for more info;
1) [Very Likely] The battery may be faulty or end-of-life and needs replacing. Check the battery connector on the Latitude and battery itself for any broken or bent pins or bits.
2) [Possible] You have the wrong power Adaptor or the Adaptor is faulty. This however would not explain why the battery is undetected.
Start up the Latitude into System BIOS (F2). Under System > Battery information check the battery and AC Adaptor status
If the Latitude D620 has warranty you may open a warranty claim with Dell Support.

If you need to change your laptop battery I suggest buying a brand new ORIGINAL D620 battery.
$140 only with warranty.
As for adapter - Dell Original D620 Ac-Adapter
$30 only
I had this same EXACT problem.
I even bought a new battery and the problem persisted.
I followed these instructions and hit the charger button and it had 4 out of the 5 LEDs lit up, so I knew the battery was fine.
I then took it out and blew any dust out, re inserted it and triple checked to be sure it clicked in properly. NOW IT WORKS. I have been messing around with this thing for almost 6 months... taking it in and out. all I can guess is that maybe some particles were interfering with the connectors, or perhaps it just wasn't fully clicked in right.
So, give it a good clean, and slide the battery in gently until it fully clicks.
Believe me, I feel like an idiot for not getting this to work sooner. I really hope you can use the same solution!
