I have Vantec Nexstar3 external drive (500GB) which suddenly gives me the following error message when I try to access it "G:/ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted or unreadable".
As I have important data on it is there any way I can fix this?
Thanks

you need to reload windows back on there
at lease your hard drive aint faulty
SOURCE: external hard disk not accessible
Usually drive N is for a network, not a drive. However, if you are sure that this is the drive, then you can right click on it and format it. This will erase everything and make it usable again.
(By the way, to test and make sure it is the correct drive, open up "my computer" and you will see all the drives listed. Try unplugging the drive and see if "N" disappears. If it does then plug it back in and format it.)
If you have data on the drive that you do not want to lose, you might be able to recover the information with a data recovery software. Here is a link that I think will be very helpful to you: http://www.roadkil.net/listing.php?Category=1

This coould happen either cause of a virus check it by updated antivirus or if external disk is not properly removed or if there is a power failure or if hard disk gets disconnected when you are moving files to or from it to ur PC. I use (recover my files) software. It will work

Open command prompt and run follwing command from c: prompt
chkdsk /f F:

You unplugged it when data was still written on it so it was corrupted. Some files are still recoverable so use

to get them.

have you been manually saving data to this external drive? OR are you using a backup program to save data to it?
