I bought a set of 2 way radios to keep touch with hiking partners. I've never used 2 way radios before and I'm clue,es as to how they function

If you tell us make and model, you may get a better answer. The instructions may have a better answer too.

Basically:
  1. Charge or put in batteries.
  2. Turn both radios on.
  3. Turn the volume up.
  4. Tune both radios to the same channel. Pick a channel that is quiet. Quiet means very little chatter and very little white noise. You can make a channel more quiet by increasing squelch but increasing squelch decreases range.
  5. Both radios are now listening.
  6. When you want to talk, press the talk button and say what you want to say.
  7. Remember you are just talking to anyone listening on that channel, so be nice.

Weak lead vocals

This is often caused when an earth wire touches a channel wire, check all your connections, especially those to the cartridge.

Img stageline STA-500 power amplifier but one channel is quiet

Try swapping the speakers around from channel to channel, If the problem moves it is a speaker or a lead. It could also be something as silly as a loose knob ( especially if the unit travels), Another problem can be an input socket/plug with a broken wire/link. Failing that get a tech to look at it for an estimate, as the amp is a cheap item, to buy, a repair bill may be more than it is worth.

Quiet front R channel on Sony

Does problem persist when you connect other speaker to front right channel? (i.e. when you connect your FL speaker to FR and vice versa)?

Quiet right channel when playing pre-recorded tape.

With the deck in play mode put your finger on the imput of the channel that is low. If it buzzers the same as the other then you may have a faulty head. If it does not there is something wrong in the amp stages of the deck. You can also reverse the leads from the head and if the sound goes down on the other channel it is the head. Try doing it where the leads join with the PC Board, it will be less messing than at the head itself.

Left speaker terminal on the sub doesn't work properly

This is common with the type of powered speakers where the IC package that drives the speakers (the amp) is getting to hot and shuts down. Usually it is damaged and not reversable. There is a lot of reports of this same model loosing one channel or playing quietly. The air most likely cooled the chip down until it heats back up.
