SOURCE: CONTROLLER PROBLEM

Try resetting your Controller. Using a paper clip, there is a small reset button on the underside of the SIXAXIS. Press it.

While your PS3 is still on, press the PS button on the controller.

I turn on my ps3 and there is no menu when it comes on. just a blue screen where the menu should be.

This is because the PS3 software has become corrupted. Follow these steps to fix it but be warned, you will lose your saved data!
1. Turn the PS3 off into standby (Red light on)
2. Press and hold the power button, it will beep as soon as you press it, then again 5 seconds later then once more and turn off. Release the power button when the PS3 turns off.
3. Press and hold the power button again. It will beep as soon as you press it, then again 5 seconds later, then it will beep twice quickly. Let go of the power button when you hear the 2 beeps.
4. The console will now boot into the recovery menu. Do as the screen tells you and connect a controller up via a USB cable and press the PS button.
5. On the next screen choose option 5, "Restore PS3 system". This will then reinstall the PS3 software and cure your problem.

Hope this helps

Hi,

The PS3 has a special Recovery Menu, which you can access in the following way:

1. Turn off Playstation 3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION 3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION 3.
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION 3 System

From the above select option "Rebuild Database". After PS3 has executed this DB rebuilding operation, the disc games will be visible again in the menu.

Disk not reading

I had a similar problem. My PS3 was not starting the game discs when I inserted those to PS3. Also those game discs were not visible in the game menu. I did not have problems with the normal movie DVDs or Movie Blu Rays. Those were working fine.

In case you have the similar problem, you should try the following steps;

The PS3 has a special Recovery Menu, which you can access in the following way;:

1. Turn off Playstation 3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps

• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION 3.
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION 3 System

Select option "Rebuild Database".

After PS3 has executed this DB rebuilding operation, the disc games will be visible again in the menu and are starting automatically when inserted to PS3.

Menu doesn't come up.

With the system on standby, hold the power button until the third beep. The system will turn on with the first beep, reset the settings with the second beep, and then turn off again with the third beep. Repeat this process and you will hear a double-beep at the end and the system will stay on and it will tell you to connect a controller via the USB cable.

This will bring you to the recovery menu. Try rebuilding the database or restoring the file system.
