Ipod looks I have just purchased an iPod Nano Third Gen 8 GB (MB249ZO/A) MP3 Player (8GB iPod Video on ebay, i think that I may have gotten a fake. Can you tell me what to look for. For example the wheel on mine at the bottom says vol. and the display is not like other ipods that I have seen.

If you can’t remember the current combination, the only way to clear it and enter a new one is to restore the iPod nano software.
You can use iTunes to update or restore iPod software.
If you choose to restore, all data is erased from iPod nano, including songs, videos, files, contacts, photos, calendar information, and any other data. All iPod nano settings are restored to their original state.

About your problem.
The player doesn't require anything works with vista and xp /etc just by plugging it into your computer and then turn it on, it will show up on your my computer as a removeable disk.
