SHU43 running constantly

We've never had a problem w/ our dishwasher until tonight. I started it and left the room for a while and came back because I smelled something like burning plastic... or overheated motor. The display on the dishwasher still said 92 minutes even though it normally starts at 100 minutes and it had been well over an hour. It appears that the washer is stuck in the very first stage where it drains any left over water in the bottom. I think its just continuing to try and drain even though there is very little water there. I added a gallon of water to the bottom and started it over again to see if there was a clog, but it drained just fine and never seemed to move to that next stage. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I turned on our dishwasher and two hours later, it was still running and we can't get it out of the Rinse/Dry cycle - we've checked filters, etc.. and whenever we try to start it again, it starts out in the Rinse/Dry cycle and just continues to run and run and run and never finishes. HELP!!!!!!

Had the same problem. The float switch was stuck in the filled position. Removed left side panel to reveal fill and flood safety mechanism. Inspection revealed sludge ( soap scum?) caused float to stick in flood/full position. The drain pump just kept trying to empty sump and no water came. Dis-assembled float assembly, cleaned out sludge, re-assembled unit and let her rip.

Intrrnal leak into base of appliance will make drain pump run constantly.
If appliance fills then dumps water with drain punp then keeps filling/draining sequence then the flow meter could de faulty.
Call in engineer.

Lots of Dishwasher Issues- I have a Bosch dishwasher that is approximately 1 year old. For the first 6-9 months it cleaned perfect. It would wash everything off the dishes and leave them sparkling clean...

Do you have hard water? Many states have passed laws that outlawed phosphate as an ingredient in dishwasher detergent. If you have hard water, the detergents don't work very well anymore. The residue is probably hard water deposits (calcium and magnesium). Not harmful but it looks awful on your dishes. There are some new products that were designed to solve this exact problem. They are inexpensive and effective. Can't say the name or I'll get banned (again). Internet search will uncover it.

Some of the dishwashing soap is left and the dishes have particles stuck on them especially glasses

Thanks for using FixYa.com! This sure sounds to me like a temperature issue or a recirculation issue. The first thing I would recommend is removing the filter from the base of the dishwasher (inside the tub), 1/4 turn and it comes out. Clean the filter and the area under the large square mesh filter really good. After that, make sure you run the water at the sink until hot before starting dishwasher. If unit still not washing well and runs for a very long time, I would inspect the control for a burn mark on the heater relay which is very common on Bosch dishwashers. Start with the filter first, though.

The dishes don't get dry enough

I was able to fix this by using rinse during the cycle.
