XBox360 connection Hi, we have an older model TV with no input or output jacks only a cable TV connections. Is there an adapter that I could use? Is wireless an option? thanks

Hi Richard,

First, you'll need to determine which type of input(s) the wireless headset transmitter has. Most common is the 3.5mm stereo plug designed to slip into the headphone jack of a TV, MP3 player, cell phone, etc. Some transmitters have adapters in the box to allow connecting to the Left and Right channel RCA / phono style jacks found on other components such as CD, DVD, VCR, Stereo receivers / amplifiers, etc.

You'll need to find OUTPUTS of the CD and TV that match the plug on the wireless headset transmitter. If yours doesn't include adapters to go from say the RCA jacks mentioned above - to whatever connector that the transmitter input has - you'll need to go to your local Radio Shack store or similar store to see if they can provide an adapter that will allow you to connect.

Here are a couple plugs / adapters:





Above: A "3.5mm stereo patch cable". Your transmitter may have a cable with an end like this to plug into the TV's headphone jack.




Above: A "3.5mm female stereo jack to RCA stereo male plug" adapter that would allow the top cable to connect to the Left and Right audio output jacks on a typical CD, DVD, etc. device.

These cables / adapters are typically $5 to $10 maximum.

If you've got the version with a DVI input, use a HDMI to DVI cable. That'll take care of picture but not sound. You need to hook up an audio cable that finishes in a 3.5mm stereo jack if you want to use the Benq's speaker.

If you have the older version with just a VGA input then buy an Xbox 360 VGA cable. You'll also need an audio adapter; 2x phono/RCA sockets going to 3.5mm stereo jack.

Analog TV will probably have at best 1 output: a headphone jack.
Most older analog TV's had no outputs at all, only inputs for vcr's.
If you are lucky enough to have an output, get a 3.5mm stereo (male) plug to red/white RCA (male) adapter cable.

Keep in mind that your Sony IS NOT A TV, but a monitor instead. There is an actual XBOX360 VGA adapter that's available at most gaming retailers. It was initially designed for those who wanted to use their PC monitors for there console gaming. HDMI is NOT compatible with a VGA input as HDMI is a digital signal type and VGA is an analog type connection. You must also remember to have the XBOX set to a NON-progressive resolution (480i) if trying to hook it up using the standard XBOX video cables.

Your Lenovo laptop can be hooked up your TV if you have a model that is capable of TV output. Newer models with HDMI ports can easily connect to newer TVs that have HDMI input jacks. For older laptops or TVs, you will need other adapters or cables. The most common of these is an S-video jack, which has a small round connector with several pins arranged in a circle. For S-video connections, you will need to hook up the audio from your laptop to your TV separately.

Turn on your Lenovo laptop and HDMI-enabled TV.

Connect one end of your HDMI cable to the HDMI port on your laptop. Lenovo's IdeaPad series has these ports. If you have a ThinkPad or other Lenovo model, connect a USB-to-HDMI adapter to your HDMI cable, then plug the USB end of the adapter into any USB port.

Press the "FN" and "F7" keys on your keyboard. This will switch the laptop's display to the TV. You can then use your TV screen as a monitor or use the laptop's DVD drive to watch movies on your TV.

S-Video Connection

Turn off your laptop and TV. Connect your S-video cable to the laptop on one end and the TV on the other.

Plug audio cables into your audio out jacks on the laptop. If you do not have stereo audio output, you can use the headphone/speaker jack. Add a splitter adapter to split the sound into stereo instead of mono (single speaker). Plug the other ends of the audio cables into your TV.

Turn on the laptop and let it boot up. Then turn on the TV. Right-click on your desktop screen, then select "Properties."

Click the "Settings" tab, the "Advanced" button, then "ATI displays" or "Display device" or the similarly worded option, depending on your system. It is not the "On screen displays" option in any version.

Click on the option that suits your system, such as "TV" or "LCD." Click "Apply," then "Yes" to confirm, if necessary. Click "OK" to exit. Your display should be visible on the TV screen. If not, try pressing "FN" and "F7" to toggle the display to the external screen.

If your older model TV has red and white plugs on the back of it that say something like "Audio Out" or "Output" then YES.

Simply connect a pair of RCA Cables (available any electronics store) from the Audio Out jacks on your tv to the "AUX" input on your stereo.

You cannot power speakers without some kind of stereo/receiver.

If you do have a receiver then you can connect to your "TV INPUT" on the back of your receiver and control the tv volume with your receiver remote.

If your tv does not have those red and white output jacks then there is no practical way for you to connect your speakers.

I'm assuming the box you have this connected to is a cable converter box. If this is true, it won't have inputs for video and audio; those RCA jacks are outputs to a TV or other device that can take that kind of input. Connecting your VCR outputs to those jacks does nothing.

The simplest way to connect the VCR to the TV is using the VCR's RF output (channel 4 in your case) from the connector that says "out to TV" or "antenna out". Just remember that outputs connect to inputs. Connect the cable box output (the one marked "out to TV") to the VCR's antenna input. Then connect the VCR's antenna output back to the TV. You will need to pick up another connecting cable with F-connectors if you don't have one. Then you just put the TV on channel 4 to watch tapes. Just leave the VCR turned off for normal TV viewing.

This connection scheme also allows you to record a program from the cable box. The only thing you have to remember is that the VCR must always be set to record on the cable box output channel (channel 4, you've said). The cable box selects a channel from the cable system, but it's always sending channel 4 to the TV. (If you're confused, you're not alone. This is the part most people have trouble getting a handle on.) One thing you can't do is record and watch different channels at one time, though.

If the TV has an AV input available, it will have the three color-coded RCA jacks on the back for the audio and video from the VCR. Connect the VCR to those inputs and switch the set to the AV input to watch tapes. (If the TV isn't a stereo model, it will have only one audio input jack - white - and you'll need to get a Y-adapter at Radio Shack to join the right and left audio into one plug for the TV.) You'll get a better-quality picture and sound connecting the VCR this way.

If your TV has audio output jacks, then yes, you can connect your speaker system to the TV. Run a stereo RCA cable from those output jacks to the audio input jack on the Altec system, using whatever adapter required. You will probably need to convert from RCA jacks to a 1/8-inch stereo plug for the speaker input. Or you can pick up a cable from Radio Shack that has the RCA plugs on one end and the stereo plug on the other, and omit the adapter.

If the TV doesn't have audio output jacks, there isn't any easy way to hook up the Altec.

if your television has the two screw input, go to Wal_Mart and tell them you needan RF adapter for an older model television. If your TV has a cable TV type input, then just connect it via the cable input.

Is this a Pioneer receiver? They have the prefix of VSX but I can not locate that model on Pioneers website. It could be because it is an older model and no service information is on the website for receivers older than about 5 years old.

To answer your question I need more information. Do you want to connect the video switching of the receiver to the TV or just want the sound of the TV to go to the receiver? I would also need to know what type of video devices you want to connect and what type of inputs and outputs your TV has.

Most TV's have at least a composite video input, that is the most common type. it is a yellow RCA jack on the back of the TV and will be listed as an "input". That is what would be connected to the video output jack (yellow RCA) of the receiver from the TV for video switching. Then you need video sources connected to the video inputs of the receiver to go to the TV. You also need to connect the audio RCA cables from the video devices to the receiver on the proper video inputs that you have connected. Each video input for composite or S-video has audio RCA jacks (red and white) inputs so you can hear the sound of your video device on the receiver.

If you only want to play the sound from your TV on the recevier, you can use the audio output RCA jacks on the TV and connect them to an audio input of the receiver. This is a very simple way of using the receiver for all the different devices connected to the TV without having to connect everything to the receiver and then always having to have the receiver on any time you watch TV. The audio RCA jacks are always the red and white jacks. you just need to make sure you are using the output jacks of the TV and they are connected to an input jack on the receiver. Then you must switch the receiver to what ever input you just connected the TV to, like the "Video 1" or "Video 2" or maybe "Aux" input.
