Hi,
I was playing a game on my notebook when suddenly the screen became blue with an error message that I wasn't able to understand then my unit restarted. When it restarted, it looked like a DOS screen with PXE error codes and an error "operating system not found". We manually reboot the computer and it gave us choices to open it using the safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, another safe mode option and start windows manually. We chose start windows manually and it looked fine.
I want to know what caused the error and when can I do to fix it or prevent the error from happening again.
Please advise.
Thank you.
Try rebooting hitting f8 and go to last know good setting that work,
if that does not fix the problem, run the restore disk, or windows
repair disk,
Hi there. The thing that caused the shutdown is a software conflict. Go to the windows advanced option by pressing F8 key when you see the Dell Screen upon restart of the computer. Choose "Disable automatic Restart in system error" and press enter. That should fix your problem.

Boot into the BIOS, I think you hit the Delete key on Dell's to get into the BIOS, but I'm not sure. You should see some type of message at boot that says "To enter setup press XXX" Where XXX is the Delete key or some other key.
Once you're in the BIOS setup see if your HDD is listed. You may also find the option to reset the BIOS to default. Generally speaking this will not hurt anything and may be worth a try.

Boot to the WIndows XP CD (Press spacebar when prompted to press any key) at first prompt in setup, press R to enter recover console.
At the C:\Windows\System32\> prompt type bootcfg /rebuild then press enter

reboot see if error resolved.
If not then try running diagnostics by pressing Fn plus power button, see if there is a HDD malfunction

I know this is old but if you see this, I wouldn't use disk cleaners, defragmenters are usually ok but every time I have tried a disk cleaner or registry cleaner I always have to reinstall windows...
