I am not on my compaq now, but my problem is that i cannot connect to the internet because the compaq can't seem to connect to the linksys network that all the other laptops are connected to. this happened all of a sudden after two years!

This could be due to corrupt wireless drivers or corrupt BIOS settings. To isolate this, uninstall and reinstall the wireless drivers on the notebook. If issue persists, then update BIOS and check for the issue. Incase, if the issue is unresolved, then check if the Wireless network adapter is detected in Device Manager or not.

If it is not detected, then remove and reseat the wireless network card on the notebook. Incase, if the issue is unresolved, it clearly states that the wireless card on the notebook has gone bad. At this point, I would suggest you to take the notebook to any nearest Authorized Service Center in your location.

The easiest way to connect to a wireless internet connection is to purchase a wireless networking card that fits in the PCMCIA slot. I would recommend a Linksys Adapter (WPC54G).

Open Control Panel - click on Network Connections - right click on the network/wireless card - select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on Properties and then enable Obtain an IP address automatically and enable Obtain DNS server address automatically.then click OK and click OK again.

Internet connection between linksys router
May be your router internet settings has been wrong. you must reset the router settings by clicking the router reset button. Pls locate the button and then put the internet cable into router internet port.

Connecting wireless
By looking at the typical specs on the computer, I dont see a way unless you upgrade the laptop. It seems very old and as my personal opinion wouldnt do good on a high speed connection. It seems your computer only has a 56k modem (typical phone line jack).

Can't get to internet anymore
Try to remove the preferred networks on your Presario then try connecting again. If you have wireless security enabled on your router, you have to enter that. Make sure that the settings on your router is the same as your wireless adapter so that they can synchronize.

If you have difficulty with that, just ask me and I'll answer as soon as I can.

Internet Explorer cannot display the web page
Could be a vista compatibility problem.
check Linksys website for updated driver and or connection manager.

check that you still have permission in firewall.

remove the software of the usb wireless adapter,reboot ,then re install.

just a couple of thoughts
