How do I remove the starter motor bushing?

I have a ''92'' VW Jetta with a 1.8 liter motor. I need to know: how to remove the copper starter motor armature bushing from the bellhousing? Can anybody help me out?

The best way I have found is to use a small flat blade screwdriver to break the bronze bushing apart, but becareful of the bellhousing. The bronze bushing will break apart pretty easy. Of course, VW makes a tool to remove it, which is about impossible to find. I have heard of taking a tap and tapping some threads into the bushing and then screwing a bolt into it and trying to pull it out.

Dont use a screwdriver!! get a tap and screw it down into it. it will then bottom out and the bushing will come out. if it doesnt then screw a long bolt into it and use it as a slide hammer

92 vw jetta,wont start,runs for3 seconds,when i turn ignition switch on,nodash lights,only battery light appears,no other lightslightup like before,locks work,dont understand what to do now

Is this a 92 Jetta like you describe or a 02 Jetta TDI? If it's a 92 Jetta, I can almost guarantee the ignition switch is bad. Common failure. They're cheap, but require special tools and experience to remove.

most probably starter motor bendex. bendex runs in bush witch gets dry and starts making a noise. starter must be removed and bendex/ bush surface lubricated.

You're in the TDI (diesel) solutions section so it uses glow plugs.
If it's a petrol engine 2.0L then it would be accessible above and below intake manifold using a swivel spark plug deep socket.

Clutch replacement instructions for 1986 VW Jetta

The release bearing goes in the back of the transmission. You'll need to remove the round "VW" cap on the end of the transmission. I would need to see the pilot bushing to know for sure. It could be the starter bushing or the clutch pushrod bushing.

Am installing a starter motor. I have to remove

I wouldn't replace this bushing unless it's obviously worn out. I know of this recommended method when a puller is not available, pack the bearing bore with grease and use a socket and extension or similar rod that fits snug as possible in the bearing bore and hit this tool with a hammer as to use a hydraulic effect. the pressure of the grease will push the bearing out. This method is used on, rear wheel driven, flywheel bushing removal. Good luck!

Starter motor

Hey..........I was having problems with my starter this summer as well I ended up putting 6 starters in. Every time you buy a starter for this car it should come with a new bushing.......the bushing is hard to get out but must be replaced. And yes you will need a bushing extractor tool which you should be able to rent from your car parts store and then return for a full refund when your done. If you have any more questions let me know. Like I said I have put six starters in my VW Jetta. I could do it with my eyes closed.
