A Pin Unlock Code (PUC) or Pin Unlock Key (PUK) is used in GSM mobile phones and some smartcards to unblock a blocked SIM card.
The basic of PUK code is,
- SIM cards have their own security
- on startup SIM cards ask for PIN code (4 digit)
- If user enters it correctly then its accessible
- If user enters it incorrectly 3 times (in some 7 times) PIN code is blocked. To stop brute force attempt.
- Blocked PIN code is unlocked through PUC (Pin Unlock Code) or alternatively called PUK Pin Unlock Key which is 8 digit.
- If PUK is entered correctly user sets new PIN code and SIM is accessible.
- If PUK is entered incorrectly 3 times, then SIM is no longer usable or accessible and any data in it is lost.
- Sim card security is managed by their providers which are usually network companies like vodafone, 3G, Orange and Virgin or T mobile etc... (Whatever is yours like U-Fone, Warid etc....)
- NO ONE else can give PUK code. YOU HAVE TO ASK YOUR SERVICE PROVIDER/NETWORK for PUK.
