Hi there, I wonder if you can help me, I am trying to get on to the internet on my Wii but it was a confirmed SSID as im using a wireless connection... Can you please tell me what this is and who I can do...

it is trying to confirm the ssid which is the name of your wireless network.
if your wireless network IE. is linksys
you will want to type linksys as the ssid.
if your wireless is open it should connect otherwise if wireless is encrypted you will need to select the encryption type wep/or wpa? select wpa if that is what you have and put in the passphase or security key to autheticate to your wireless network.

My computor will not recognize linksys

The WEP, WPA, WPA2 encryption key is in your router's wireless settings. Log into your router and got to the wireless settings, you will need to get the SSID and the encryption key. Then go to your computer/laptop's wireless card and configure it with the router's SSID and encryption key, so it will then connect to the wireless router and the Internet.

Step 2:
Select your wireless network's name or SSID then click Connect.

If the computer does not connect, it is probably because the computer cannot detect any signal or cannot see any wireless network. In this case, you should change the channel of the router. For instructions, click here.

How do i setup my wireless linksys model wcg200?

The wireless settings that you need to take note of are:
a. SSID - this is the name of your wireless network

c. Wireless Security - serves as the password for your wireless network

To check the wireless settings on the Linksys router, follow the steps below.
Checking the Wireless Settings on the Linksys Router
Step 1:
Access the router's web-based setup page. For instructions, click here. If you are using a Mac computer to access the web-based setup page, click here.

If it is Disabled, it will not be visible.

Suddenly today after working for a couple of years all the lights are on solid and my wireless laptops can not find the router

To connect to your wireless network using Vista's WLAN Autoconfig, follow these steps:
Step 1:
Right-click this icon 5449-001.png at the bottom-right corner of the screen and select Connect to a network.

5449-003.png

Step 2:

Select your Wireless Network Name or SSID then click Connect.

5449-005.png

NOTE:
If the wireless network name or your SSID is not listed, the SSID Broadcast on the router might be disabled. For instructions on how to connect to the wireless network with the SSID broadcast being disabled, click here.
If the computer is not detecting any signal or is not seeing any wireless network, change the channel of the router. For instructions, click here.
If WEP/WPA is enabled on the router:
Step 3:
Enter your wireless network WEP/WPA Key on the field provided then click Connect.
NOTE: To learn more about WEP/WPA and other Wireless Settings, click here.

5449-007.png

NOTE: Make sure Display characters is checked, to display the WEP/WPA key used by the router. You can get the passphrase or network key from the encryption that has been generated (if using WEP network security) from the router's web-based setup page. If you're using WPA network security, the network key is the key for passphrase.

Make sure you enter the wireless network's WEP or WPA key not the Passphrase.

It is also possible to make a wireless connection even if the wireless security is disabled on your router. If you don't see any network SSID from your network list, make sure your wireless adapter/device is ON and your router is in good condition. If your router shows any unstable occurrence, click here.

How do I put an encryption on my linksys router?

Securing your wireless network is a simple process, which generally does not require a lot of time. This can be done by:
  • Enabling WEP or WPA on the Router
  • Enabling Wireless MAC filter on the Router
  • Disabling SSID Broadcast on the Router
NOTE: The wireless security modes available may vary depending on the model of the router and wireless adapter you are using.
Enabling WEP on the Router
Wired Equivalent Protocol (WEP) is a type of wirelesssecurity which does not change. It provides comparable confidentialityto a traditional wired network. There are two types of WEP you canchoose from:
a. WEP 64-bit: This type of WEP consists of 10-hexadecimal codes. To enable WEP 64-bit, click here.
b. WEP 128-bit:This type of WEP consists of 26-hexadecimal codes hence it is moresecured compared to WEP 64-bit. To enable WEP 128-bit, click here.
Enabling WPA on the Router
Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is a type of wireless securitywhich is dynamic in nature. Meaning, it changes depending on the timerenewal you will specify. Hence, WPA is more secured compared to WEP.
  • Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (WPA-TKIP) – utilizes a stronger encryption method and incorporates Message Integrity Code (MIC) to provide protection against hackers.
  • Advanced Encryption System (WPA-AES) – utilizes a symmetric 128-bit block data encryption
To enable WPA, click here.
Enabling Wireless MAC Filter on the Router
Wireless access can be filtered using the MAC address of thewireless devices transmitting within your network’s radius. You caneither permit or prevent specific wireless computers access to yourwireless network.
To permit wireless computers to connect to your wireless network, click here.
To prevent wireless computers to connect to your wireless network, click here.
Disabling SSID Broadcast on the Router
Disabling the SSID broadcast is one way of securing your wirelessnetwork. This procedure will prevent other users from detecting yourSSID, or your wireless network name, when they attempt to viewavailable wireless networks in your area. For instructions, click here.

Fortgot network password

How do I find out my Wireless key (WEP or WPA) ?

There are numerous ways to find out these values so I will cover a few.

Easy Solution (you should be so lucky)
Sometimes the value for the Wireless Key is written on the underneath of the router, look for SSID (this is the network name) and WEP or WPA key (called the encryption key)

Alternative Method
In order to find out your Wireless Network Key you must first use a cable to connect to your router.

Once connected check that you are connected to the internet by opening Internet Explorer , Safari or Netscape (in fact any internet browser)

The address or the router is usually one of the following values:-

http://192.168.0.1
http://192.168.1.1
http://10.10.0.2
http://192.168.2.1
http://192.168.2.254

Try clicking on each and see if you get a logon box popping up

If you do, that is the correct address for your Wireless router, note it down.

If the box has the username and password completed, then click OK

If there is no value for username try "admin" and for the password try one of the following "password", "admin",

Also try nothing for the username and "admin" for the password

Sometimes the value for these are written on the underneath of the router

Once the router page is displayed, look for an item called Wireless Settings.
Next see if a further option for Wireless Security exists.
The names of these items vary from Router to Router

Once security is displayed the SSID (Network Names) and the WPA or WEP Key can be found.

Once you have noted these values, unplug the cable and click on the following link

Having trouble adding computer to wireless network

this is just easy.. what you should type is the encryption key only... if your security is wep, only the encryption key or key 1 is needed. if your security is wpa, only the passphrase is needed.. it is very CASE SENSITIVE.. but if you see that the name has changed to LINKYS_SES, then you have a problem there because your wireless settings has changed due to the button on your router which is the secure easy set-up on the upper left corner which is the cisco button.
