I have a KCM511 .. a little over a year old. I am getting the err2 msg. I have done the on/off button reset, the coffee maker hasn't been stored in a hot or cold location, so it's the electronics. Can you answer me: What electronic part of this coffee maker is broken? and what is the cost of repair (on average?)
My coffee pot shows err2 message. Â I've tried resarting, etc. I assume this message means something. Coffee pot is only 6 months old!My coffee pot shows err2 message. I've tried resarting, etc. I assume this message means something. Coffee pot is only 6 months old!

Same problem - started with err4 and now is err2. Just about 2 years old as we received as a wedding gift. Talk about starting the day off on the wrong foot. When I read in the manual that when err1 2 or 3 appear you restart and if that doesn't work send it in, I was some what upset. Reading all over about so many people having same problem I am beginning to think big error on KitchenAids design and they better fess up and give us all our money back!

error 2-brewed coffee to find water and coffee grounds remained in basket. Water does not travel to top cover to drip into basket. Heater will not kick on. I believe it's a logic board problem. I can pour hot water into filter basket and drips into the coffee pot to allow me to heat the coffee on the stove. I also have the same problem. Woke up very early Thanksgiving day in anticipation of a large family dinner. To our horror, our kitchenaid coffee maker would not work. We tried everything you could possibly think of to remedy the problem but kept coming up with the same error 2 message. Since it was a holiday, and the day before black friday, no stores were open to even purchase a new coffee maker. I tried calling the customer service center for help but no one was available there either. Over the years, I have asked family members to bring a covered dish but this was the first to ask them to bring their coffee pot.

My husband got up at 4:00 this morning to go to work, and low and behold, the coffee maker displays the ERR2 message! How frustrating. I've done everything I can think of and it's still there. Same Err2 problem. Called customer service and they said unit is out of warranty, but offered me special pricing on a new 14 cup unit. I have the same problem. I am getting err2 on the display. I called the customer service number 1-800-541-6390. They told me since the coffee maker is still under warrenty, they will replace it. The just want the old one back. They are probably getting a lot of calls with the err2 message. Sounds like kitchenAid created a lemon. Well, at least they are willing to replace it.
thank god.

I also had an err 2 problem. When I called customer service I got a very nice girl, but because mine was 2 years old they would only offer me a small discount on a new model..needless to say, I wasn't going to pay more money for a product that might only last another 2 years..Will think twice about buying this brand again. I also have the dreaded Error 2. Couldn't find my book, (which is also not online at the KitchenAid website - grrrr!). When I found this site, and called Customer Service, they refused to warrant my coffee maker because I can't produce a receipt (it was a gift), so they are basing the warranty coverage on the manufacture date. I guess I see their logic - someone might get a replacement for their FAULTY KITCHENAID COFFEE MAKER after the "1-year from date of purchase" warranty has expired - can't have that! So they offered me a discount on a 14-cup coffeemaker. This is clearly a common problem, and I would think that if KA wants to continue to sell $120+ coffee makers, they would be a little more lenient with their customer service policies. Wow! When I googled "KitchenAid Coffee makers" I didn't anticipate finding an actual link to err2 codes. Here's obviously a universally defunct product - you know... a lemon! Bajillions of people would not be blasting KitchenAid all over the internet for their "one year receipt or we'll give you a coupon towards the purchase of yet another lemon" offer!
This is a joke! I just hung up from visiting with 3 customer service reps. Two from KitchenAid, and one from Whirlpool. Although the men were considerably nicer about saying nothing than the woman "supervisor" was... being nice and being smart proved themselves out to be two entirely different things.
Apparently this is a company that would rather leave infuriated customers everywhere empty handed and without a receipt... for a faulty product they'd purchased or been gifted with, than to simply do the right thing when they discover they've produced an inferior product.
Customer service at its finest!
I love the listed "solutions" to this run-away coffee maker problem! Call the nice people and IF you can dig out a receipt or make one up or WHATEVER... and IF it's within one year... they can kindly offer a viable solution. Replacement with the SAME coffee maker!
Buying one lemon is one thing. Buying a second lemon just because it's gonna cost $90 instead of $130 is... a really inept suggestion for KitchenAid/ Whirlpool to make!
Wonder if Whirlpool or KitchenAid have ever heard of that word: "RECALL" --- when enough people are unhappy, one would think a company with any concern for customers would have responded long before now. It's shocking to see how long the complaining has been going on.
Great job KitchenAid! Way to do absolutely nothing... right!
Same model. Same ERR 2 problem. Purchased Dec. 2006 and out of warranty, I called Kitchen Aid 800-541-6390. They said it's not fixable, but are sending me a free replacement. The replacement is not identical, and has been used in either a photo shoot or as a demo, but it's red with a stainless insulated carafe. I think I traded up! The call center WAS NOT IN INDIA!!!!, and I spoke with a very cordial English speaking Canadian. I made sure to sound sad and not mad, and she offered up the free replacement right away. It's supposed to be here in a week, and they want the old one back. They're sending a prepaid shipping label for it. I thought I'd be in for a long day with them since it was out of warranty, but this was easy.
I have no solution..but I am very unhappy, like a lot of other people, about this coffeemaker! I also called the 1800# and was told without a reciept they could not help me. The rep had even mentioned that multiple people have called about this same problem. Kitchenaide charges a lot of money for a unreliable coffeemaker and then thinks that a customer will turn around less than a year later and buy a new one!? Walmart is a much better deal, at least they will take their faulty products back and replace them. I hope that kitchenaide does not think to hard on why customers are not repeat buyers.
I have the same problem. I just called Kitchen Aid and was told my model was out of warranty. I was offered a "discount" off the new model. I'm very frustrated. Why would I want to pay $90 on a new Kitchen Aid coffee maker when the one I own barely lasted a year?
I also had an issue with 'err2' message displaying while turning on the coffee maker. Tried unplugging, etc to no avail. Called the customer service # at 1-800-541-6390, got connected within minutes to a very pleasant, English speaking individual who asked only for nature of problem and serial #, made arrangements to send a complete replacement with prepaid packing slip-without having to send the defective unit back in first!!!
I have to say, this is one of best Customer Service experiences I've had in recent years-outstanding.
I just wish someone could tell me why coffee makers have to break in the morning when you need them most-right along with AC units always dying in July!! :D
I woke up this morning to the dreaded err2 message. Before Googling the error, however, I was able to make a cup of coffee, nonetheless, using "most" of the coffee maker.
Here's what to do:
1. Boil the same amount of water that you normally put into the machine.
2. Put the grounds in the filter and in the machine, just like normal. Open up the lid.
3. Let the water come to a boil and then let it sit with the lid off for about 20 seconds to cool so as to not burn the coffee.
4. Slowly pour the hot water over the coffee grounds. If you find you can't control how much water you are putting in and want to avoid weak, watery coffee then take out the carafe and then fill the filter & coffee with the hot water and let it steep for a couple of minutes, then put the carafe back in and let the coffee pour through.
Ok, so now you have your coffee and you're ready to begin searching for a new coffee maker and perhaps trying to get a replacement by calling Kitchen Aide at 800-541-6390. Good luck!
Solution appears to be the company made a BAD product. I myself have the same situation with Err2 msg. Thing is not quite 2 years old. Loved it BUT WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER Kitchenaid product.
I had the same problem with mine. I called the customer satisfaction number 1-800-541-6390, spoke with Debbie, and thay are sending me a new one under warranty. They do want me to send the old one back in the new packaging, and they are even providing a postage paid mailing label. VERY good customer service!
Solution #2 rocks! I gave them a call and had the same outcome. I was also very cordial, no need to get upset :) I will be receiving my new coffee maker shortly which is an upgrade as well. My previous model lasted 6 months before the ERR2 code was displayed. Kitchen Aid definately has a claim against whomever is supplying the circuit boards for this model. I bought mine at Costco which is another way to get it replaced, simply take it back, get your money back and buy a new one.

I have a coffe maker that is 1 week old, the model number is w10321647a, it is a cusinart make and I am unable to make coffee when I press the Brew buttion, I get an error message that is err2. I have unplugged the coffee and plugged it in a again and it is still coming up with err2 and no coffee. Please help!!
The KitchenAid website states if it shows Err1 Err2 or Err3 try re-setting the power to the unit if it returns there is a problem with the electronics and Err4 is a stuck button. The Err2 is a heating element falure. Unfortunatley it may cost you more to fix than a new one. If it is less than a year old they may repair it under warranty but after a year your on your own. If you call them and complain that you have read a lot of other people online have the same problem they may repair it for you...Hope that helps.
An ERR 2 may be cleared by a simple reset of the coffee maker. This
means unplugging the unit and plugging it back in. When powered back
on, select a brew function to see if the error reappears.
If it does, ERR 2 indicates an internal error with the computer of the
warming plate. This may be covered under Kitchenaid's 1 Year Hassle
Free Warranty. I would advise you to call Kitchenaid Customer Service
to see what options are available to you. Repair is not recommended, as
it is not cost effective for the company or the consumer.
