Dell Dimension 4400 - Power light glows amber when attempting to power up. I'm thinking it's the power supply. Is this something I can fixeplace myself?

I think that the cause of this problem is your cpu or ram

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

If you have a volt meter, check the P1 P2 etc...power output. Sound like you power supply may be corrupt.

I think you are right about power supply. This would be my diagnose. Be careful with your PC because faulty power supplies may fry your motherboard. I would recommend replacing it. This isn't expensive and it's pretty easy to get done. I hope this helps. Good Luck

It seems like it that you have a faulty power supply. Also the motherboard may be damged aswell, But most probably you can fix your PC by changing the power supply.

Sure you can, its just 4 screws in the back-be sure to match the wattage -- also you can test the old one with A VOM meter

I would think the batteries need replacing. That happened to my Dell Latitude CPI. The batteries won't charge past about 3%, so I got new ones and that did the trick. If this is under a year old I would contact Dell about it, if it is under a year old they should replace the batteries.

I had the same issue with my Dell Dimension 5150 and I replaced the front I/O USB Audio Panel and it booted right up.

The amber light is the error light on a Dell. It can mean a few things. 1. RAM has went bad, not properly seated. 2. Video card has went bad or come unseated. 3. Power supply is not working properly; or 4. Motherboard has went bad. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer.

inside the pc there should be a green light. called flea light. if its not on.. then id say motherboard or power supply are bad.
take power cord off. and hold power button down for 10 ecs. then reconnect and retry. i think its abad psu.
