I have a Frigidaire sidexside, purchased in May 2005. The compressor does not come on, and will produce a 'buzzing' sound for approximately 17 seconds. Then the 'buzzing' sound will cease and all is quite. In a little over 2 minutes the 'buzzing' starts again and still no compressor coming on to cool fridge. This action is now all the time. Thank you

Your symptoms are classic. What you are hearing is the starter relay trying to start a warm/hot compressor by supplying it with an extra jolt of electricity, but because of the faulty compressor (or if you are lucky a faulty relay) that's warm (cool ones start more easily often) is refusing to budge into motion and compress the freon.

Sorry to tell you that your compressor is bad, what you are hearing is the compressor trying to start, but unable due to shorted windings. not a cheap fix. sorry.

Refrigerator has developed a low buzz or hum. Do I need to be concerned?

Hello friend, thank you for your post!

I understand that your Frigidaire refrigerator, LFHT1817LW1, is buzzing or humming. With modern, high efficiency compressors you may hear a high pitched humming or pulsating sound. Additionally, if you have an icemaker equipped inside of your refrigerator the water valve may produce a buzzing noise as the valve opens to fill the icemaker with water. I hope this has been helpful. -Matt

Not making Ice

Are you getting any heat from the condenser? Sounds like the buzzing is the compressor failing to pump.

The freezer is defrosting and the refrigerator is warming. the compressor is kicking on approximately every three minutes and is making a loud buzzing sound when it kicks on. is my compressor shot?

Probably not. The compressors are very sturdy and long lasting. The compressor is controlled by a start relay, and is protected by a thermal overload. It sounds like your start relay is bad, which would explain the buzzing sound. It takes a certain amount of time to cool down, and then tries to start again. The start capacitor and start relay should be replaced.

My kenmore sidexside quit cooling and freezing. Repairman said it was the relay and compressor without using any tools. Relay was burnt. How can he know the compressor is out too? model 106-54502300

Good day,
He can't, although it's a good guess. However, The compressor can be tested and run with a special test cord most all techs have.
It allows the compressor to be run independent of the rest of the machine and is the definitive test. I would not go forward unless that test is performed. Compressors are too expensive.

Frigidaire refrigerator compressor buzzes but won't start.

The compressor is seized it needs to be replaced log on to frigidaire.com and find a local service provider if you purchased prior to the end of 06 and if less than 5 years old it has warranty coverage on sealed system repairs. check your manual to be sure. you can try what it is called a hard start might work for a while it uses a larger capacitor to give a bigger kick upon start up.

Buzzing compressor

heres a part number for the overload relay assy 5304468029.. its mounted on the side of compressor. its a tricky one, usually my experience has been the noise comes from a bad compressor( which you should have 5 year full warr from manufacture). sometimes the overload relay does go bad preventing compressor from starting, the n ew compressor will come with a new overload relay

Frigidaire gallery model plhs267Za

It sure sounds like a compressor problem to me. The buzzing sound is the compressor trying to start followed by a click which would be the overload protector tripping.
