My imac loses its wireless connection, regains it,

Does your Toshiba have a wireless adapter? If so, you can set up a home network, if you don't already have one. If no,Does the iMac have a VGA or HDMI connector? You can connect via a adapter cable, Vga to HDMI or a HDMI cable, depending on the iMac connections.

Thanks Habour castl for letting us and future people having a similar problem know that the firewall settings was the cause of the internet not working through your router.

Depending on what type of Internet service you are using, your Intel iMac comes standard with an Airport Extreme wireless card built in. As a result, if you are unable to connect wirelessly to the Internet, you will need to try this:

- Click on the Apple menu icon, located in the upper left corner of your screen and select System Preferences from the drop down menu.

- Now locate Network from within System Preferences.
- In the side window, make sure you see Airport and check also to see that it is turned on. If it is, then check the left side window to see if the AirPort connection is active.

Keep in mind, your modem or connection router of course, has to be able to provide wireless connectivity, otherwise, if you do not, there will be no need to try connecting via your AirPort Extreme card.

If your network has been physically set as a wireless network, then just turning on the AirPort card in System Preferences>Network will start discovering all networks within its range, including your own network.

So whether you are using an Airport Extreme, Express or a 3rd party (non-Apple-branded) router, you should be able to connect wirelessly.

There is a function for the airport called "robustness". you can enable it in the icon in the upper-right of the screen. It looks like a wi-fi signal icon. Click there, then click on "connection robustness" I think it is called. I am pretty sure that will work, unless the signal is just too weak, and that could be the reason it falls off frequently. If that doesn't work for you, I am in Colusa, and have 2 extra airport cards I am selling for $5 each. Good luck.

It depends on the speed of your iMac as to which AirPort card you need. The 700/800 machines use the original version while the 1ghz uses the AirPort Extreme wireless card. You can find both on sites like eBay

did you try going to printer properties? i think you will most likly find your answer there.

On the iMac choose Create Network... from the Airport menu. Then the Gateway laptop will be able to join the iMac's created network.

Cable modems don't usually have this issue so I'll assume your on a DSL connection, 56K modem, or someother phone related variant. You were most likely setup for a connection through your Airport using local IP settings on each machine and when you moved the machine you reconfigured yourself with a DHCP address. There are two solutions. (1) Reconfigure every machine for DSL (2) Configure your airport for DSL and connect everything to it.

Unfortunately the process from one provider to another varies slightly. But for that reason I generally only recommend cable for multi-computer housholds sharing a web connection.

At this point you are much better off installing a USB wireless antennae than spending money on an Airport card, cracking open the iMac, and installing it.

USB wireless adapters are cheap, plentiful, and have more capabilities than the generation of Airport cards that were made for G5 iMacs.

well imac G4's don't  have built in airport (wireless internet) included as usual with apple its another item you must buy an airport extreme card  then hook it up to an airport base station another item to buy via wireless internet then hook you airport extreme base station up to your modem via ethernet. whew ok now sync the airport base station to your imac using airport set up application then select your network and type your WEP password and viol internet in about 1 hour if your lucky hope this helped my fingers hurt now LOL.
