Need to know if I have to install RAM in pairs on this PC or can I buy and install RAM modules one at a time? I know there are four available slots and I can max out the RAM at 4 Gigs!!
I am looking for a FREE download for system recovery that I can put on a floppy disk. I have Windows 98 boot disk, but I need a program that I can install onto a Floppy Disk that contains, system recovery, disk partitioner, and perhaps other useful tools that can diagnose problems on crippled PC's that have no working optical drive. I have just discovered System Rescue CD which is great but I need something similar that I can run from a floppy.(Some older PC's I work on have either no or very old optical drives that are junk). And some newer system have no Floppy Drive therefor I need both type recovery/diagnose media..CD's and Floppy I am just starting to repair systems for relatives and close friends and really need a useful repair/recovery tool utilizing a 1.5" Floppy Disk Thanks for any helpful info that you can supply me with.I am looking for a FREE download for system recovery that I can put on a floppy disk. No need to install RAM in pairs. you can buy and install memory but it should be the same model that you have now e.g. DDRII RAM Modules. you can max out the RAM 4 gigs

Having a quick look at the manual there appears to be a single screw on the rear of the computer that holds the side panel closed. once you remove the screw the side panel should come free. https://panam.gateway.com/s/Manuals/Desktops/9525329.pdf

Hi John, The multimedia audio controller is the sound driver. Create a folder on you're desktop. Download this driver for the Gateway e4100 PC.(Scroll down to motherboard downloads, & scroll a bit more until you see the sound drivers). http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn¶m=2800471 There are 2 drivers listed. Read the description under each. One lists motherboard names. After downloading into the folder run the exe within the folder. Open device manager. Right click on the multimedia audio controller once & left click update driver. Windows hardware wizard will open. Click No, not at this time. Than click the next button. Another window will open. Left click once in the circle next to, Install from a list or specific location (Advanced). Than click the next button. Again, another window will open. We want to remove the green check mark next to, Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM...). Click the green check mark once & it will go away. Click the browse button & point windows to the uncompressed folder within the folder you stored the sound driver. Once high-lighted click ok. Windows should install the driver software & add the sounmax icon into you're control panel. It will also install an icon down by the clock.
Good Luck! If you still have troubles let me know. Mike
