DVD drawer won't stay closed

Panansonic DMR-EH57 DVD recorder owned since new. This morning it has decided that the DVD drawer is not to stay closed. With or without a disc in place, it returns to DVD drawer open, even whilst flashing 'Please Wait' after pressing the On/Off button. Have pulled the power for 10 minutes at a time, but no change. Seems electronic as all DVD button & menu options are not accessible.
Does my three year old son have something to do with this? Any suggestions please.

The open button could be shorted meaning the unit is constantly being told to open its tray i think its worth having looked at and i think your sons off the hook dvds are pritty hard for kids to muck up unlike the older vcr you would no belive the things kids would put in them best one i ever saw was a weat bix and a slice of toast.

The original HDD will have firmware written on it by Panasonic. When you put a new HDD you might have to go into setup and format the HDD.

I sent an e-mail to Panasonic New Zealand to ask about this, and they advised:
"Panasonic NZ no longer pre set DVD recorders or players for all region multi-zones. However, we will multi-zone for all regions on request. This needs to be done by an Authorised Service Centre, as a special service remote is used. Once delivered to one of these agents, the service company will charge the fee to Panasonic NZ."

If you're not in NZ, try contacting Panasonic in your own country. Just call up www.panasonic with your country code after eg. US = .com and NZ = .co.nz. It seems a *lot* easier than all those complicated hacks on the net. Now all I have to do is work out how to disconnect my DVD recorder again, and try to
