I have a maytag dishwasher and the light wash light stays on even after a wash cycle. Tried to press normal wash and goes back to light wash. What could be wrong?

Most likely the keypad will have to be replaced. If the lights change, but the cycle stays on light, it's in the control module or the switch.

Have you tried cutting the power to the unit and re-powering? If it's connected to an always on circuit, shut off the fuse that controls it and turn it back on in a minute.

hello first check yor breaker make sure not tripped.
next check for lights in your panel.
perform a normal wash if no luck
next perform a service diagnostics cycle.
note sercice diags. works on Maytag MDB7600 series.
press the following keys in less than 6 secs.
HeatedDry > Normal > HeatedDry > Normal
to advance machine cycles press Start/Resume key.

Open the door. Within 3 seconds press the following sequence --Try pressing normal wash, heated dry, normal wash, heated dry, normal wash, heated dry three times within 6 seconds and then press cancel to reset the dishwasher. If that doesn't help then try pressing Saini Rinse, Heated Dry, Saini Rinse, Heated Dry, Saini Rinse, Heated Dry or Saini Rinse, Air Dry, Saini Rinse, Air Dry, Saini Rinse, Air Dry 3 times in 6 seconds and then the Cancel Button. Close the door and press Cancel.
Blinking lights would stop and should be able to use your dishwasher normally. If the light is still blinking try and reset the power to the dishwasher and try again. If still the light is blinking then check for the connections on the keypad, it may be due to moisture or shorted connections on keypad.

my husband found the solution on line when he googled the problem. He read that the drain could have been blocked, or it said press the drain button. That did the trick, and now I have clean dishes! He didn't have to pay anyone to solve the problem which was nice.

Your question is: The dishwasher goes through the first wash cycle on a light setting and first two on a normal cycle but will not continue.The motor hums but does nothing else.It drains fine as well after the wash cycle.

Without additional info it sounds like a control problem. Must be a warranty call. If beyond warranty then you have to decide whether it's more cost effective to repare or replace it.

call sears, 1-800-4MY-HOME. They have a trouble-shooting department that will get rid of this problem. It is caused by water temperature being wrong at the start of the cycle.... blah, blah, blah. The representative will tell you to push a certain set of buttons in a certain order and that unlocks the dishwasher.

Sorry I don't know the sequence

I just read this for the same problem: push sanitize, then heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, cancel, then open and close the door. It worked. The dishwasher is running correctly even as I type this. 

My research indicates that this is a control board malfunction, but with so many different descriptions of failure, I am left confused.

although the light may be a true indication of a pending problem, try this test: Find the circuit breaker and switch it off to remove power to washer for 30 minutes. Then power back up. Any changes? If light still on, then threat of trouble is real and must be fixed. Not sure what to CLEAN, though. Search for manual online...I'm sure Kenmore put that light on for a real purpose.
