We are having the sam eproblem with the asking to free up 20mb. Your solution (The player needs free memory space for building up the playlists: delete the amount of data off the player.

Connect to the computer and backup all the data from the player onto the computer.
Next delete some of the saved data from the player to free at least 20 MB of memory.

    Hello Mr Floyd,

Your solution message that reached me, seems to be a help request.

There's a new support link for RCA players:

    http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/mp3players/

When you select M4304, an overview list for this player will show up.

Default connection for the M4304 is Mass Storage Class, which means the player can be explored as a removable disk, having a drive letter with a capacity of 4GB.

Viewing files exploring the player as a flash drive might fail:

    1. when you've put the player in Media Transfer Protocol mode, to obtain subscription content.

    2. you used software like Windows Media Player or RCA easyRip for media transfers.

    3. corrupt data, which could be caused by

    - bad data

    - taking out the player while exploring the removable disk, without going through the safely remove hardware icon

    - taking out the player while using software for transfers and there's no message, you're allowed to take out the player

When the player has failure showing the menu / freezes:

    RESET the player:

    1. disconnect the player from the computer (when connected)

    2. see that the Lock switch is on the left side (back side switch, away from the padlock)

    3. then press and hold the MENU button for at least 10 seconds

INITIALIZE the player, when you still have problems seeing the data in the player when making a connection to your computer:

    1. RESET the player: see step 1, 2 and 3 under RESET above

    2. push and hold the play button, while connecting the player to the computer's USB port

RESTORE / UPDATE the player, when a RESET won't help and the device functions has improvements or when they're not going the way they should:

    note

The player will be formatted and all media data will be lost / deleted !

First make a backup of the player's content: save the media in the player to a location on your computer: best would be, to have a backup at all times. (you might need the RESET and INITIALIZE procedures to get the player connected)

In the overview list of the M4304 support, under the tab Downloads, download and run the Firmware Update / Restore Utility and follow up the steps.

When I try to turn on the player a message comes up "Profiling requires 20MB free space. Shutting down"

Unplug the mp3 from the USB
press and hold the menu button for 10 seconds
release then press and hold the play button
-- while holding the play button plug it back in. Wait until it says intializing, then release the play button and press start.

What do i do when my device is saying, "profiling require 20MB free space. Shutting down!", & shuts off? It will not allow me to pass that point.

Plug the unit and ensure that there is 20mbs or more free. If the unit is filled it can not create a library file to play the music. If there is more then enough free room the only thing you can try is to reset the device or format it. Thanks, Midwest-tek
