Uninstalling USB and downloadind chipset driver from HP, System restore, Un-ticking the power save box etc. Does anybody have a fix for this. Everything else on my laptop works good. Rob.

USB driver is not working

Hello

Firstly, you should check up when you attach a device to your computer, if there is an error message showing up at the right bottom of the desktop which says "USB Device Not Recognized". If so, you must haven't install the driver of the device properly or the driver is damaged.

Then you will need to download a new one from the website of the manufacturer and install it on your PC. Then the hardware will be recognized by Windows system and be able to work.
If there is no error message "USB Device Not Recognized" showing up, that means your USB driver is damaged or outdated. USB driver is used for detecting USB devices. Without it, Windows system will not be able to detect and recognize any USB hardware. The only way to solve the problem is to install a new USB 2.0 driver for your computer.

No matter which issue it is, the problem always result from outdated or damaged device drivers. To solve and avoid hardware not working problems is to update the drivers regularly. Because all drivers have bugs more or less and lead to a lot of unexpected computer errors. Chipset manufacturers, like NVIDIA, ATI, Intel and so on, update and release new drivers for their products.

So you just need to download and install new ones for your computer.

USB Device Not Recognized

Appears to be a failure of the bluetooth module itself. You could try uninstalling it in Device Manager and reboot to allow it to reinstall.

Apple iPod Video Black Digital

http://ipod.about.com/od/troubleshootingyouripod/ht/reset_ipod_vid.htm

Get a new cable if everything else works that is your problem
Usually, unplugging, replugging it and then rebooting solves the problem.

your other options are a driver issue..either with the ipod drivers, itunes, or the USB drivers for your computer itself. since your ipod video and psp work fine, you can rule out USB drivers, but that doesn't rule out additional driver problems.

the other option is there's some kind of failure with your ipod..and sometimes if a device starts drawing power before doing any kind of communication with the computer (like when my rockbox-hacked ipod goes into charge only mode) then windows will assume there's a hardwire issue. the best way to determine if it's an issue with your ipods are take them to another computer and see if they work. if they work fine...try uninstalling and reinstalling itunes (back up your music and database) and see if that solves the problem. if none of that solves it and you know the ipod shuffles are good..then your system has suffered from the mysterious driver failure that's plagued a lot of systems. and generally the only real solution is to reinstall windows from scratch.

Usb to serial controller

Try removing (uninstalling) the driver in the Device Manager. Then download the chipset drivers and run the install. It should identify the correct driver automatically.
