The light does not need a ground to function properly. The ground wire is for personell safety. If the cable has a metal cover then that is a type of ground. If the electric circuit was instralled a while ago , and there was no ground wire included, it is still OK with the code. The National Electric Code is not retroactive.

2004 v star Silverado 1100. Neutral light is not coming on, can't find neutral, won't start with side stand down?

if the neutral light isnt working the bike assumes its in gear so it wont start with the stand down unless you pull the clutch in ,but it will cut out if you let the clutch out with the stand down.the neutral light works on a simple system it has a live feed to the bulb and the earth for the bulb goes to the neutral switch ,this is only earthed when in neutral which completes the circuit to the bulb.so check your bulb is ok then check your neutral switch is earthed when in neutral,lastly check the bulb for a live feed.

Ive got a 1997 suzuki marauder and wvery thing is woking but no neutral light and not starting but will turn over if u jump the starter seliond it has a new battery

Ok the starter circuit relies on the bike being n neutral to start a unless you pull in the clutch as there is a switch on it.if the switch is faulty or not connected it won't start if the neutral light is not on.the neutral switch works like this.
there is a small brass sprung loaded plunger in the end of the gear selector drum which turns around when you change gear.when in neutral the plunger rubs on a switch face and send an earth up to the neutral bulb ,the other wire on the bulb goes to an ignition live wire so as so on as its earthed it competes the circuit and the bulb lights up.so if it don't work it's either a blown bulb,faulty neutral switch,bad earth wire from the switch which is near the front sprocket or no live feed from the ignition when it's turned on.

How to wire wh601 1 gang switch

If it's a one-way switch, there'll be two terminals.

One for constant live cable (e.g. from the fusebox), the other for switched live cable (going to the light bulb). The two neutrals and earths if available should be connected together (neutral to neutral and earth to earth only).

Am fitting new ceiling lights have 1 live 1 neutral 1 earth wire to connect . the ceiling connection has 2 live & 2 neutral wires as well as the connecting wires what do i do with spare wires do i wrap...

the 2 live wires are 1 for lights,1 for fan,keep them separate if you want control from 2 wall operated switches,if you only want control from the switches on the fan you can tie these together,as for the2 neutral wires they can be tied together at the fan box,and the 1 earth wire goes to the metallic surface ground screw on the unit

I have wired a new light fitting into our downstairs toilet however when I came to test it the light worked but half the other downstairs lights are now switched off when the toilet light is swithced off....

Hi
Probably put your family at risk of electricution . By connecting the live cables to earth you have effectivly made all the metal light fittings live. It is amazing that the fuse has not blown, This in itself is dangerous and you should have an electrician look at the wiring.
The correct wiring should be as follows.
Identify cables there should be 2 twin and earth (red black & copper earth) cables and 1 twin red and copper earth. (or 2 single red wires)
connect all copper earth wires suitably sheathed in green/yellow sleeving to earth lug.
Connect 2 black cables to neutral block.
Connect either single red (0r 1 of 2 reds) into live block.
connect remaining 3 reds into loop block.

Heath-zenith sl-6107 wiring diagram

hi there the wirings colour codes for nz are as follows

OLD WIRING CODE

Green = Earth
Black = Neutral
Red = Phase Or Live

NEW WIRING CODE

Green/Yellow = Earth
Blue = Neutral
Brown = Phase or Live

============DANGER 230VOLT ===============

Electricity can kill.
You should use an Electrical contractor for this repair job,
Caution always turn off power first before touching any wiring,

The Live wires always carry power,from one point to another,
the black neutral is your return path from the live phase wire
the green wire is always the ground ,

In this example

the sensor will have four wires as follows

Green = Earth Wire
Black = Neutral
Brown = Phase (incoming supply) 24 hrs
Red = Phase Load (outgoing supply) from sensor to lights triggered

Notice there are to phases in the circuit.Brown and Red
Always treat them as LIVE or Active Power.

Brown will normally be the Live incoming power and
Red will be the load side of the sensor,

Check the brochure supplied by manufactuers or their website to confirm the wiring order is correct before commencing any installs or repairs,

Always Safety first.
Safe a live today and you'll remembered forever.

Wiring on wall lights

If you home is wired correctly, than the Black should be your Hot, White should be Neutral, and your earth should be either green, or just a plain copper wire.

Hope that helps.
