Hello,

Two things can cause this type of problem, 1 bad drum unit or 2 dirty corona wire.

HTML clipboard Below are the directions to clean the wire.
1. Open the front cover and pull out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
2. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab from right to left several times.
3. Return the blue tab and click it into the Home position.
4. Reinstall the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly in the MFC/Printer.
5. Close the front cover.

Be sure to return the sliding blue tab back to the home position next to the arrow or you will have dark streaks on your printouts.

If this does not solve the problem then you will need to replace the transfer drum in the printer. The part number for the drum is DR-400 or DR400.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

If the backround is grey on the paper, its another indication to replace the toner cartridge.

Document copied in black & white prints

Check Printer Settings in computer for Resolution. if its print resolution is low then it will print very light gray.

Check Toner / Ink Cartridges for ink also.

To check resolution go to printer Properties by right clicking printer (from Control Panel>> Printer and Faxes) .

White stripe on right as if black toner needs

You probably got a piece of paper or something in the image path or the paper path. If it is a nice clean line it is more likely to be in the image path, if it is smudgy line it something may be scraping the toner off the paper before it gets to the fuser. Check the paper path.

Printer leaves a grey haze on the page.

If your fuser is not failing then someone probably didn't install the toner properly. Regardless, it is incredibly hard to clean toner out from all the guts and the gray won't go away as long as it is there. I would take it outside, wear a smock, and blow it out with an air compressor or half a dozen cans of compressed air. Wipe down and clean every part you can.

Replace the toner cartridge. Then run a couple dozen copies of something to pick up the remaining toner from the internal mechanisms. See if their is any more toner. If there isn't...then somebody messed up and you just need to work the last of the toner out of the innards. If there is more toner after you clean it out and replace the toner cartridge, start thinking about replacing the fuser.

Printer changing color of paper

Make sure the transfer belt is clean. Also check the magenta cartridge and see if it isn't leaking slightly. By all means DON"T blow it out with compressed air! You may use a toner vacuum or a soft cloth to clean out any residual toner. If that doesn't do the trick, you may have a contaminated fuser. By the way, do you get the same effect when printing black and white?

Gray background where printo on glossy paper 130g/m2

hello

this sounds like a bad black ink cart, or the fuser rolls built into the printer are dirty.

you can swap out a black cart to test that theory, you can also just print a single blank page (no text or graphics) onto a piece of glossy paper and see if there is anything there after its gone thru the printer.

if the piece of paper has stuff on it it had to come from the rollers inside the printer.

service required, unless your comfortable changing out parts in your printer.

Brother DCP-120C Printer - Does not print black, Black and magenta cartridges renewed with new Brother cartridges. Black ink level reset OK but not magenta. Have tried automatic head cleaning but still no...

have you recently had a paper jam. somtimes pieces of paper can become trapped under the print head which restricts the printing. if there is and its been there for a while the print head may need to be wiped/cleaned( a bit tricky) then a couple more print head cleans.

The black, print quality when printing a document on white paper, is not 100%

Few questions, are you running true Canon Inks and refills are always a off black not a true canon black!

Have you tried doing nozzel check, does the top black squares all come out ok? if so it could be down to the paper and the inks!
if you use 80gsm paper does it print ok?

Hope this helps

Won't print black

I found a solution to the Black printing problem :)
Under Printing Preferences: Set your Media Type to Photo Paper Pro.
We used edible ink cartridges and printed onto icing sugar paper. Same old... Just one day it refused to print black. In order to continue our small business, I degraded the color until I printed gray and not black.

Tonight, I browsed for the problem and came across this :)

Hope it helps you too

Trouble printing to photo paper

The paper you print on is not relevant. What happens is the green tint is the actual printer delivering all the colours to give a 'composite' black. On shiny photo paper this is emphasized where as on plain paper the colour is absorbed and shows as intended. So what can you do? Move away from black and go for a tint such as sepia.
