I don't know how to reinstall the linksys access point!!! Our wireless network that we made simply disappeared, so I'm trying to re-make one. However, when I tried that with a flash drive, it couldn't work because I have to plug it into the access point, which has no USB port. So now I'm lost. Help please!!!

T
o access the Access Points Setup, and the LAN IP address has not changed, then computer must have an IP address of 192.168.1.XXX. If the Access Point is plugged in via Ethernet to a Linksys Router and the computer is also connected a Linksys router via Ethernet, then the PC should already have a correct IP address (unless the LAN IP Address of the Router has been changed). If unsure, please assign the computer a Static IP Address so it will have an IP address in the same range as the Access Points IP Address.

If the Access Point is being connected to a hub/switch/router via Ethernet, then use the cable that was provided with Access Point. If the Access Point is being connected to the computer directly, then a Cross Over cable must be used. Cross over cables can be purchased at most electronic stores.

Remember: When ever a change is made in the Setup of the Access Point, the Apply button must be used to save the settings to the Access Point.
  1. Open a web browser (such as Internet Explorer or Netscape)
  2. When the browser opens, go to the "Address" bar and input the IP address of the Access Point.
      Default IP addresses:
    • WAP11 v2.8 - 192.168.1.251
    • WAP54G v1.1 - 192.168.1.245
  3. A "User Name" and "Password" prompt will appear, leave the "User Name" field blank and input the Access Points password (The default password of a Linksys Access Point is admin) into the "Password" field.

Connect your PC to the the acess point's LAN port, through an ethernet cable (normal network cable with RJ45 connectors on both ends). Turn the access point on. On the PC, start an internet browser and type "192.168.1.245" on the address bar. At the login screen, enter "admin" for both User Name and Password. The web interface should appear.
If you need further informations on how to set your acess point up, and your user guide happens to be missing, you can download it from this location, after selecting your access point hardware version.
Hope you are able to sort your problems out.
Cheers! Carlos

Un able to connect the Wireless access point, from my laptop. It is showing up in "view Avialable Wireless Networks" and it is not getting connected when I say connect

The solution is to remove (Uninstall) the Dell WLAN Management software this removes the device as well. Then Reinstall the wireless card with the Drivers ONLY. (It seems the DELL software doesn't work properly with the DELL branded network card in a DELL Laptop; go figure)
When you download the driver it will unzip and try to install automatically; but this will only reinstall the offending software again, so you must cancel the installation after you unzip the file.
When I searched for new hardware again it found the device as a Broadcom wireless card but could not install the drivers. This allows you to click Update Drivers and point to the 'drivers' folder in the location that the files were unzipped to. Once the device driver alone is installed the wireless card works immediately and finds any available networks.

No power

The light on the adapter indicates if there is network activity.

Check in device manager if the adapter is properly installed. Right click my computer, then select properties. Go to the Hardware tab and click Device manager.

If there is a yellow exclamation point on the USB adapter then you may need to reinstall the Linksys adapter.

If the Linksys adapter is installed properly, then check the wireless network connections if it is connected.

To ensure that you are connected to your wireless network, you will need to know the settings on your wireless router or access-point. Take note of the wireless network name (SSID) and the wireless security and network key.

If you are using the Linksys Wireless Utility, go to Site survey, select your SSID then click connect. Type the network key if wireless security is enabled.

If you are using the default wireless connection on your computer, just right click the wireless network connection icon on the system tray (lower right conner of your screen, near the clock), then select view available wireless networks. Select your SSID, then click connect and type the network key (if wireless security is enabled).

Hope this helps! Good luck!

I have a linksys wireless usb card and it is not detecting my secured wireless network after configuring it

We need to know the wireless settings on your wireless access-point/router.

Check if the SSID broadcast is enabled on the wireless access-point. If it is disabled, then you have to manually add the SSID to the wireless adapter and make sure the wireless security such as WEP or WPA keys are correct.

You may also enable SSID broadcast so that the wireless adapter will detect your wireless network.

Also, you may try to change the wireless channel to 6 or 11.

I trying to fix a small office network and need some help. I have a netgear ds116 hub that currently has a linksys WAP54G access point connected to it for wireless access. The access point is not encypted...

So have a hub and a wireless access point at office.
Do u have a router in the network at office ?
The default IP address of the WAP54G will be 192.168.1.245.
The Sonic firewall is a different thing.
I think you are accessing the set up interface of the sonic wall with the IP address 192.168.1.1.
Where is the access point connected ?
Is it connected to the sonic firewall ?
The access point does not have the DHCP server.

Wireless router connection problems

Assuming "cannot connect to linksys router directly" means you cannot connect to a Wireless Lan managed by Linksys router,
1) try to connect new computer to LinkSys Router using a Lan cable, add new PC to your network.
2) recover protocol (WEP or WPA) and Key of WLAN (Passphrase or Key: TKIP or AES) either from other PC on same network either from your Router.
3) If you missed actual key you must connect to router and reset it to a new key to be eventually used for every connected device.
Call for detail on this possibility
