The MOST common problem with laptop (CPU) over-heating is caused by DUST/LINT...

That would be normal, as the variable speed fan comes on only when the computer is under load.

What is not normal is that the fan is not coming on when the computer overheats.Or that the fan is not cooling enough when computer is overheating.

Monitor computer temperature using a software, check if Fan is coming up when temperature gets critical.

If fan comes up but does not cool enough, then replace the fan, it is not efficient anymore because of a bad bearing or dust. ~Also ensure that fan is well mounted, if fan has poor contact with CPU surface , cooling will be poor.

If fan does not come up, and critical temp is not detected, then the sensor on motherboard is bad, this is very uncommon. When this happens the problem is usually related to system or power settiings , rather than overheating.

If fan does not come up and temp is critical, then fan is faulty, replace it.

There are also more than one fan on many laptops, check that one of the fans (CPU fan, video fan) is not completely ded, and therefore cause for the problem.

By using the software below you can also find out if the problem is really overheating. If temperature results within normal range, then usually it is not overheating. In that case test systtem and check power saving settings.

Here is the software to control your fan and temp. sensor state:

Cleaning of the fans

When I called Seville Support I was told that you can NOT open fan to clean and may not get it together if attempted (glad I stopped when I did!).
You need to use air pressure. After using much of a can of compressed air such as you would use on a keyboard and not getting too far, I broke out my seldom used air compressor which kicked out enough dust bunnies as to block out the sun. Hint: be sure to use outdoors. I'm happy to report both units working as good as new.

Don't have an air compressor? Ask your neighbor, he'll need the correct nozzle to 'blow air' (it comes in handy for many tasks).

How to open fan to clean blades honeywell model

first remove the two screws on the back top of fan... then remove little cover on third screw which is located on the bottom of the outer casing.. i used a fork to poke the hole for leverage then pull it out... take out the three screws on the bottom (that hold the stand part of the fan).. now you can start removing the casing.. start to pull apart.. carefully... once you have opened one part you can use a flathead or a butter knife to pry open where there are clips on the sides.. the final clip is under the handle poke that one and your fan should be opened....

How do I clean the inside of the glass on the Epson 3490 Scanner?

Disconnect and remove the lid. Remove the two screws on the back of the base. Then use a screwdriver or flat blade to slightly open the back seam. Beginning at the back, run a blade up inside the upper part of the side seam. You will need to release three catches on each side. Once the sides are loose, raise the back of the top, while pushing forward, and the two snap catches at the front will release. The top then lifts off and you can clean the glass. Reassemble in reverse order.

Lasko 3520 20-Inch Cyclone fan - disassemble fan for cleaning?

How do I clean my Cyclone or Air Companion™?
Lay the fan face up on a flat surface. The front grill should be facing you. Remove the screws from the rear grill. Place a flat-head screwdriver into the gap between the front and rear grills. Pull the front grill towards you, exposing the fan blade. Do not remove the knobs on either side. Then, wipe the blade with a soft, damp cloth. Use a mild detergent if necessary. Be sure not to touch the motor. Click here to download product instruction sheet.

It's extremely hard to turn the handle to raise the blade. Lowering the blade is smooth and easy, but I have to apply an excess amount of pressure to turn the handle when I want to raise the blade.

If this is a new saw, return it to the store for an exchange, but if it's an older than a few months:

These contractor saws often acquire this problem. It's usually dust, specifically pine dust (it has sap thus making it stickier), on the screw or the sliding mechanism. What I do is:

  1. Unplug the saw
  2. Remove the blade
  3. Dismount the saw from its stand
  4. Lower the mechanism all the way
  5. Flip the saw over onto its table
  6. Access the screw and the lift mechanism
  7. Use a brush to remove the accumulated wood dust from the screw and the mechanism.
  8. If you have a leaf blower or access to one; blow the interior of the saw (wear eye protection always!)
  9. Do NOT oil the mechanism, this will only serve to gum everything up faster - use a dry lubricant (graphite or silicone) or none at all.
To avoid this in the future;

  1. Avoid resinous woods (not a likely solution).
  2. Blow the dust from the saw interior when finished using it (this works well) - use an air hose or a leaf blower, the leaf blower actually works best.
  3. After cutting and before stowing the saw; run the blade to its highest position and then down below the table. This pushes any dust off the mechanism and screw.
If you find little or no dust accumulation, it's possible the saw has a bent screw or binding mechanism and will require service.

Always be safe; unplug the saw and remove the blade when working on it, and always retract the blade below the table when not in use to prevent damage to the blade - or being cut by an exposed blade; they're sharp!

Goodman furnace motor is dirty

The blower motor, squirrel cage (fan) and its housing can be removed as a whole part. Disconnect the wiring harness to the motor, remove the ground wire. Look for a couple of screws that mount the blower housing to the furnace. they will 5/16 head size and usually be at the top. The bottom slides into a metal notch on the frame. With a little work and maybe a few cuss words, pull the whole thing out. A shop vac or air compressor will remove the dirt. Some dirt may be determined to stay, so a stiff bristle brush may be needed. Replace in opposite way you removed it. If the whistle remains, check the duct work and metal panels, and anywhere there is a gap or tape. This may be the cause of the whistling noise, but cleaning the vent holes in the motor and the fan blades cant hurt and will help the efficiency of the system and increase the life of the equipment. If the whining is the little vent motor up top, then try oiling with a thin turbine type oil, or just replace it, as they are relatively cheap. If you are asking about cleaning the internal parts of the motor, I wouldn't recommend doing that. If there is an oil port on the motor housing, use the oil I recommended earlier. Most likely it has a sleeve bearing not a roller type, so that's about it.
